A heritability close to zero indicates that almost all of the variability in a trait among people is due to environmental factors, with very little influence from genetic differences. Characteristics such as religion, language spoken, and political preference have a heritability of zero because they are not under genetic control. A lognormal error is usually assumed in the traditional stock–recruitment(SR) analysis.... a positive bias results when [a] SR model with [a] lognormal error is used for fish recruitment prediction. Not only is this bias exponentially dependent on the structure of the model' s residual variance and the historical SR data, it is also dependent on the specific value of spawner biomass used.... a bias correction that is asymptotically unbiased with a finite-sample biasthat is practically zero [is then derived]. Data from two Pacific salmon populations, southeast Alaska pink salmon... and Chilko Lake sockeye salmon... are used to demonstrate this approach. The results show that the relative bias is about 10% for a spawning biomass within the historical range and that the bias is substantial outside that data range. However, with the proposed bias correction, the bias is negligible both within(<0. 1%) and outside of(<0. 3%) the data range. 2, record 4, English, - bias%20correction

There is another development that has recently appeared in a few tests that is important for the future development of test batteries. This is the appearance of absolute scales. An absolute scale is one that covers the entire range of a function, from zero(theoretically) to the full adult range. Zero is often unattainable in psychological scores; so the bottom of a scale is the lowest score for which a reliable score can be obtained. In practice such tests have an extended range from a below-average IQ of a young child to a superior adult IQ. In many areas, such as memory or tapping speed, a zero is obtainable. 2, record 8, English, - absolute%20scale

2, record 8, French, - %C3%A9chelle%20absolue

Ripstop nylon is a light-weight nylon fabric with inter-woven ripstop reinforcement threads in a crosshatch pattern. The material comes in many different colors and sizes, including thickness. It is woven with coarse, strong warp and filling yarns spaced at intervals so that tears will not spread. Ripstop nylon produced for various purposes may be waterproof, water resistant, fire resistant, or have zero porosity(will not allow air or water through), and can come in light, medium and heavy weights. Textures range from a soft and silk-like material to a crisp or stiff fabric that sounds like a paper bag when moved. 6, record 13, English, - ripstop

1, record 28, French, - %C3%A9nergie%20de%20rupture

The energy for complete fracture in double edge-notched tension test specimens has been measured for a wide range of polymer films. Results indicated that the variation of the total specific work of fracture, wT, with ligament length, L, can be described by two straight lines, both of the form wT=we+β wpl, thus giving upper and lower intercept values at zero ligament length(i. e. we) for each film. The first term, we, is the energy absorbed per unit area of fracture, whereas the second term, wp, is the energy absorbed per unit volume of plastic deformation remote from the fracture surface. The lower we value was obtained from the extrapolation of the data within the mixed mode region(plane-stress/plane-strain) where the maximum net-section stress exceeded 1. 15 times that of the tensile yield stress, σy, of the material, and the upper value was ascertained by extrapolating the data within the plane stress region where the net-section stress was 1. 15 σy. It appears that the transition from plane stress to plane strain mode of fracture in thin films occurs at a ligament length much greater than 5B, where B is the specimen thickness. 1, record 30, English, - stress%20region

The capillary length d(zero) is a microscopic quantity, typically in the order of Angstroms. However, the diffusion length l is usually macroscopic, varying in a wide range depending on the given growth process. Thus Laplacian growth make take place on very different length scales. 2, record 38, English, - capillary%20length

For the rank value transform, the values for each variable are sorted. Then, the rank values are divided by a suitable constant such that all values are in the range from zero to one. The transformed values are distributed uniformly in that range. 1, record 39, English, - rank%20value%20transform

(...), the MTD [Moving Target Detection] principle involves dividing up the entire radar coverage area into small range-azimuth cells-(...) called ’coherent processing intervals’(CPI). Eight pulses generated at a constant repetition frequency are assigned to each cell, and each return is subjected to Doppler filtering over a range of velocity values. The particular feature of MTD is its ability to measure the density of clutter and to detect the sudden presence of an additional element-such as an aircraft moving into a particular cell-even though it may have zero relative velocity on account of its tangential track. 1, record 41, English, - coherent%20processing%20interval

1, record 41, French, - intervalle%20de%20traitement%20coh%C3%A9rent
