[The] step-index multimode fiber has a large core, up to 100 microns in diameter. As a result, some of the light rays that make up the digital pulse may travel a direct route whereas others zigzag as they bounce off the cladding. These alternative pathways cause the different groupings of light rays, referred to as modes, to arrive separately at a receiving point. The pulse, an aggregate of different modes, begins to spread out, losing its well-defined shape. The need to leave spacing between pulses to prevent overlapping limits bandwidth-that is, the amount of information that can be sent. Consequently, this type of fiber is best suited for transmission over short distances, in an endoscope, for instance. 2, record 10, English, - step%2Dindex%20multimode%20fiber

A very informal title, the term zigzag graph is descriptive(...) It is also commonly known as a slope-curve chart(...) A simple zigzag [or sawtooth] curve is made by drawing a line directly from each plotted point to the next. This curve suggests that changes from point to point are gradual or continuous and it is usually the best way to show that data have "carryover" from one time to the next. 1, record 15, English, - zigzag%20graph

Machine Zigzag : Using a medium width zigzag and slightly shortened stitch length, stitch close to the raw edge of the seam allowance. Adjust pressure and tension to attain a properly balanced stitch... Uses : This is probably the most common seam finish. It's a nice finish for medium-weight woven fabrics that ravel. Advantages : Relatively easy finish to apply. Does not add bulk. Fairly effective at controlling moderate raveling. 2, record 31, English, - zigzag%20stitch%20machine

The isotropy of the Rayleigh mechanism in the horizontal plane makes rolls neutral with respect to a local rotation. The second phase instability is associated with this invariance property. Leading to an undulation of the rolls along their axis(i. e., in a direction perpendicular to that of the wavevector) it is called the zigzag instability(subscript "ZZ"). 1, record 36, English, - zigzag%20instability

A lettuce edge is a decorative finish that takes advantage of the knit's stretchiness. To get the frilly effect, stretch the fabric while stitching the garment edge with a medium-width zigzag; the more that the fabric is stretched, the smaller and more numerous the ripples become. Some knits develop runs if stretched near the cut edge, so test a swatch first. 1, record 54, English, - lettuce%20edge
