Machine Zigzag : Using a medium width zigzag and slightly shortened stitch length, stitch close to the raw edge of the seam allowance. Adjust pressure and tension to attain a properly balanced stitch... Uses : This is probably the most common seam finish. It's a nice finish for medium-weight woven fabrics that ravel. Advantages : Relatively easy finish to apply. Does not add bulk. Fairly effective at controlling moderate raveling.

OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Sewing Techniques and Stitching
CONT

A straight seam is the one that occurs most often. In a well-made straight seam, the stitching is exactly the same distance from the seam edge the entire length of the seam. In most cases, a plain straight stitch is used. For stretchy fabrics, however, a tiny zigzag or special machine stretch stitch may be used.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Techniques d'exécution et points de couture
CONT

Record 11 1985-08-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sewing (General)
CONT

The overedge-stitch seam is done by using a special stitch pattern that is a combination of straight and zigzag stitches, some of which are stretch stitches. The straight stitches fall on the seamline; the zigzag stitches go over the edge. Using this type of stitch, seams can be joined and finished in one stitching operation. They are suitable for knit or stretch fabric.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Couture (Généralités)
OBS
