braid-guide attachment, a loopy wire that attaches near the presser foot shank, keeps the braid untangled and taut while stitching. Put stabilizer on the fabric to stiffen it before sewing the braid. Use a basic zigzag stitch to attach the braid to fabric. Use the braid foot when attaching string for gathering fabric. 1, record 1, English, - braid%2Dguide

3, record 2, French, - point%20zigzag

The hairline seam can be used for collars, cuffs, and facings in sheer fabrics. This seam is stitched with a narrow zigzag, then trimmed close to the stitching so that no seam allowances show through. To give it more weight, filler cord may be added during the stitching. 1, record 3, English, - hairline%20seam

1, record 3, French, - fini%20filiforme

A straight seam is the one that occurs most often. In a well-made straight seam, the stitching is exactly the same distance from the seam edge the entire length of the seam. In most cases, a plain straight stitch is used. For stretchy fabrics, however, a tiny zigzag or special machine stretch stitch may be used. 1, record 4, English, - straight%20seam

1, record 4, French, - couture%20droite

A lettuce edge is a decorative finish that takes advantage of the knit's stretchiness. To get the frilly effect, stretch the fabric while stitching the garment edge with a medium-width zigzag; the more that the fabric is stretched, the smaller and more numerous the ripples become. Some knits develop runs if stretched near the cut edge, so test a swatch first. 1, record 5, English, - lettuce%20edge

1, record 5, French, - ourlet%20ondul%C3%A9

Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The overedge-stitch seam is done by using a special stitch pattern that is a combination of straight and zigzag stitches, some of which are stretch stitches. The straight stitches fall on the seamline; the zigzag stitches go over the edge. Using this type of stitch, seams can be joined and finished in one stitching operation. They are suitable for knit or stretch fabric. 1, record 6, English, - overedge%2Dstitch%20seam

2, record 6, French, - couture%20au%20point%20de%20surfil
