... over the South Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Brazil, the shielding effect of the magnetosphere is not quite spherical but shows a "pothole, "a dip, which scientists explain as a result of the eccentric displacement of the center of the magnetic field from the geographical center of the Earth... as well as the displacement between the magnetic and geographic poles of Earth. For orbits tilted... and having altitudes of a few hundred miles, this oddity, called the South Atlantic Anomaly(SAA) becomes important, because spacecraft in those orbits periodically pass through that zone of reduced natural shielding and thus spend a few minutes during each passage exposed to higher particle flux than outside it. 2, record 6, English, - South%20Atlantic%20anomaly

1, record 6, Spanish, - anomal%C3%ADa%20del%20Atl%C3%A1ntico%20Sur

The most common type is an upper-level cold low with circulation extending to the surface layer and maximum sustained winds generally occurring at a radius of about 100 miles or more from the center. In comparison to tropical cyclones, such systems have a relatively broad zone of maximum winds that is located farther from the center, and typically have a less symmetric wind field and distribution of convection. 1, record 11, English, - distribution%20of%20convection

In a positive-intrinsic-negative(PIN) diode, an intrinsic(non-doped) semiconductor is sandwiched between the positively and negatively doped semiconductor regions. This arrangement results in a large electrical field in the I region which increases the zone where photons can free charges and reduces the charge transit time. The maximum rate of light fluctuations that a PIN diode can track is limited by the transit time of charges to about 20 GHz [gigahertz]. 3, record 12, English, - charge%20transit%20time

The European furnace insert in the MSL [Materials Science Laboratory] is developed to support research in the field of Bridgman crystal growth. The LGF [Low Gradient Furnace] consists of two heated cavities separated by an insulating, "adiabatic" zone. It is intended to provide restricted but well-controlled gradients between two stable temperature plateaux. Crystal growth is performed by translating the furnace over a stationary sample; thermomechanical stresses in the grown crystal are minimised by maintaining the solidified part of the sample in the heated cavity throughout processing. Alternatively, the insert can be used for thermodiffusion experiments by keeping the furnace stationary and using only the gradient capability. Isothermal experiments can also be carried out with suitable sample/cartridge configurations. 2, record 14, English, - furnace%20insert

RFID readers, also called interrogators, are used to recognize the presence of nearby RFID tags. An RFID reader transmits RF [radio frequency] energy through one or more antennas. An antenna in a nearby tag picks up the energy, and the tag then converts it into electrical energy via induction. This electrical energy is sufficient to power the semiconductor chip attached to the tag antenna, which stores the tag’s identity. The tag then sends the identity back to the reader by raising and lowering the resistance of the antenna in a kind of Morse code. 6, record 18, English, - interrogator

3, record 20, French, - technique%20de%20la%20zone%20flottante
Record number: 20, Textual support number: 1 OBS
4, record 20, French, - technique%20de%20la%20zone%20flottante

Demilitarization. A zone or territory is said to be demilitarized when two or more States agree by treaty not to fortify it with the end in view of preventing war. A notable example of this was the case of Germany : the treaty of Versailles of 1919 which ended the First World War provided that «all fortified works, fortresses and field works, situated in German territory to the west of a line drawn fifty kilometers to the east of the Rhine, shall be disarmed and dismantled. »The obligation not to fortify is a form of negative servitude. 3, record 34, English, - demilitarization

In a replicated yield trial, established in 1987 at 4 locations in southern Manitoba, Double Delight ripened approx equal to 10 days later than Red River with the first harvest occurring on 25 August. Fruit yield averaged 1. 22 kg/m2 at all sites while low cane densities(6 m2) generally gave higher yields. Numbers of fruit/cane were similar to Red River(50). Field trials suggest that Double Delight is hardy to USDA zone 3 and ripening fruit can withstand-5 deg C. 2 ref.(From an abstract found in Dialog). 2, record 36, English, - replicated%20yield%20trial

3, record 36, French, - essai%20de%20rendement%20r%C3%A9p%C3%A9t%C3%A9

Continuous wave ported coaxial sensors, regardless of whether they use codirectional or contradirectional coupling, detect the intruder's presence and identify the sensor zone affected, but they do not identify the intruder's position along the cable length. These sensors generate an electromagnetic field between a pair of ported coaxial transducer cables, sometimes called "leaky" cables, and perturbations in the field resulting from someone entering the zone of detection. 1, record 38, English, - continuous%20wave%20ported%20coaxial%20sensor

In the implementation of [the District) Plan the designations and the boundaries thereof will be established by zoning by-laws and/or subdivision controls... Once established,... a change inland use designation can only be effected by an amendment to this Plan. "Land use designation" differs from "zone" or "zoning designation" in context only, the former being used in Official Plans and in most other planning documents, while the latter are restricted to the specific field of zoning. Note also that the French equivalent is a broader term. 1, record 41, English, - land%2Duse%20designation
