The two test firings of the engines took place 47 minutes apart. The first was at 05 : 27 h Central European Time. While it was a test burn only, it did serve as a small rendezvous manoeuvre for the module on its way to a linkup with the ISS [International Space Station]. The result of the burn was a 1 m/s increase in speed, placing Zvezda in an orbit with a perigee of 172 km and an apogee of 339 km. The second burn occurred 47 minutes later, at 06 : 14 h CET. It too, resulted in a change of velocity of 1 m/s and raised the perigee by another 4 km, resulting in an orbit of 176 km by 339 km. 2, record 1, English, - rendezvous%20manoeuvre

The Service Module will be the first fully Russian contribution to the International Space Station ... The 42,000-pound module, similar in layout to the core module of Russia’s Mir Space Station, will provide the early station living quarters; life support system; electrical power distribution; data processing system; flight control system; and propulsion system. It also will provide a communications system that includes remote command capabilities from ground flight controllers. The Module contains three pressurized compartments. 7, record 3, French, - module%20de%20service%20russe%20Svezda

R bar approach of the space shuttle towards the satellite ... along the radius vector. 3, record 8, English, - R%2Dbar%20approach
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 OBS
For visualization purposes, the station's direction of motion is called the velocity vector, or V-bar for short. By convention, points in front of the station are said to be on the positive V-bar while points behind are considered negative. The imaginary line connecting the station with the center of the Earth is called the radius vector, or R-bar. Points directly below the station along this line are considered positive while points above are considered negative. Endeavour, then, will approach the station along the plus R-bar. The station will be oriented with its long axis aligned with the velocity vector, with the Unity module in "front" and Zvezda behind. Unity's nadir and zenith ports will be oriented as their names imply. This orientation, or attitude, is known as "XVV, "i. e., the station's X axis is aligned with the velocity vector. The terminal rendezvous sequence will begin with a rocket firing(TI) as Endeavour trails the station by about eight nautical miles. Once the shuttle reaches the plus R-bar, commander Brent Jett will guide the ship up from directly below. As he nears the station, he will yaw the shuttle 180 degrees so its tail is pointing in the direction of motion and its nose toward the minus V-bar. Assuming a good linkup, the shuttle will begin controlling the station's orientation for the duration of Endeavour's mission, moving the lab back into an "X-POP" attitude with the station's X axis perpendicular to the plane of its orbit. In this orientation, the long axis of the station is broadside to the velocity vector. 4, record 8, English, - R%2Dbar%20approach

The Automated Transfer Vehicle(ATV) is one of the most important elements of Europe's contribution to the International Space Station(ISS). ATV's mission is to deliver goods, fluids and gases to the astronauts, cosmonauts and other Station residents, and propellant for refuelling Russia's Zvezda module, as well as to provide a large propulsion capacity for ISS reboost during its attached phase of up 6 months. During this phase, ATV will be loaded with unwanted items and rubbish to burn up in the atmosphere during the controlled destructive reentry. 2, record 11, English, - destructive%20reentry

According to the construction plan of the International Space Station, the Docking Compartment-1 has to be eventually replaced with a much larger Universal Docking Module, UDM. Launched by the Proton rocket, the UDM would provide life-support capabilities for as many as six crewmembers onboard the Russian segment of the ISS. Prior to UDM arrival, the Docking Compartment-1 would be discarded to free the Earth-facing "nadir" port of the Zvezda service module for the UDM. The new Docking Compartment-2, as well as Russia's future science modules, would then be able to dock to multiple ports onboard the UDM. 2, record 12, English, - universal%20docking%20module

The freighter's docking probe [Progress P6 supply ship] penetrated the aft port of the Zvezda service module and was captured during last Wednesday's link up. 2, record 14, French, - composante%20russe

5, record 15, English, - R%2Dbar
