A grade of official standing or status of a tennis player vis-à-vis that of other players whose names are found in a list drawn up in order of ability, point accumulation and past tournament performances.

National ranking lists, made up annually for tournament players by the governing associations in almost every country, are normally official, but international rankings are not.

Le classement est obtenu par la prise en compte des résultats dans l'ensemble des nombreux tournois dits «du Grand Prix», donnant un certain nombre de points selon le parcours effectué. Il est constamment mis à jour, les résultats d'un tournoi annulant ceux du même tournoi l'année précédente. L'ensemble des résultats d'une année couronne le meilleur joueur et la meilleure joueuse (les nos 1) mondiaux. Ces classements sont établis pour les hommes par l'A.T.P. The primary technique used for checking the inconsistency of precipitation data has been a double mass analysis. In this technique the accumulation at a given station is plotted against the average accumulation for a group of stations. When the number of stations in the group is reasonably large, the accumulation of the group average should be quite stable. Thus, if there is a change in the relationship between a single station and the group at some point in time, it is likely that there has been a change in the precipitation measured at that station. This deviation can be removed by multiplying a portion of the record at that station by a factor that will produce a generally straight line relationship.

Method for the large-scale purification of enzymes. The method involves placing a protein solution into a cell containing a number of semipermeable membranes. The pH of the solution is adjusted to the isoelectric point of the protein to be purified. A current is passed through the solution by two sloping electrodes. Because the required protein is at its isoelectric point it remains stationary in the electric field; all other proteins, being charged, will move either towards the cathode or the anode. This movement will cease when the migrating proteins meet the semipermeable membranes. The accumulation of protein at the membrane surface will cause an increase in density, thus it will move to the bottom of the cell.
