ACENTRIC FRAGMENT [3 records]

Record 1 2012-01-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Molecular Biology
DEF

A smaller nucleus located close to and lying partly within a depression on the oral side of the macronucleus.

CONT

A micronucleus(MN) is formed during the metaphase/anaphase transition of mitosis(cell division). It may arise from a whole lagging chromosome(aneugenic event leading to chromosome loss) or an acentric chromosome fragment detaching from a chromosome after breakage(clastogenic event) which do not integrate in the daughter nuclei.

Domaine(s)
  • Biologie moléculaire
DEF

Record 2 2011-12-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

A broken-off piece of a chromosome that lacks centromere and therefore its distribution to the poles during nuclear divisions is random and commonly it is lost.

OBS

Acentric fragments are frequent consequences of irradiation of cells with X rays and other ionizing radiations. Chromosomal inversions may generate bridges (shown between the two poles) and three acentric chromosome fragments of substantial size that are drifting in the middle of the cell and are not distributed to the poles.

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
CONT

Record 3 1986-08-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

A deletion resulting in the formation of an acentric and a centric fragment of chromosome.

CONT

(Autosomal structural rearrangements). A good example of this is the deleted B group chromosome resulting in the cri du chat. This could arise by at least four different mechanisms which are terminal deletion, interstitial deletion, translocation, and unequal chromatid intrachange, and there are at least eight families in which the mechanism has been shown to be a reciprocal translocation.

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF
