  • Plastic Materials
  • Photography
  • Graphic Arts and Printing
DEF

A cellulose ester in which the cellulose is not completely esterified by acetic acid.

CONT

The flexible plastic base on which the light-sensitive emulsion is coated is made by treating cotton fibers with acetic acid. The result is a flaky white material called cellulose acetate.

CONT

Cellulose acetate is prepared for use as a fiber(acetate rayon), safety moving film, and a tough plastic.

OBS

cellulose acetate; CA: term and abbreviation standardized by ISO.

DEF

OBS

A transparent plastic once used almost universally as a film base. Because of its high flammability it has largely been replaced by cellulose acetate and other plastics as film bases.

OBS

OBS

Cephalogram. A term loosely used as a synonym for cephalometric radiograph : sometimes used to refer to a fine-line tracing on an acetate film overlay of the salient structures, landmarks and pertinent measurements, which is used for diagnostic purposes. However, measurements may be digitized directly from the film via computer.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Winemaking
CONT

Like "Fleur", acescence is marked by the formation of a film on the surface of the wine-but of a translucent grey rather than white in many instances. "Acetobacter" causes a rapid decrease in alcohol and sugar and produces varying amounts of acetic acid and ethyl acetate which give the wine the disagreeable vinegary taste, thus ruining it.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Industrie vinicole
CONT

OBS

"lacquer peel method".(...) "The oriented rock is polished with a grinding material to grain size 400 until there is a completely smooth surface. After thorough rinsing in water the polished surface is etched for 1 1/2 to 2 seconds in 33% diluted hydrochloric acid and then once more thoroughly rinsed in water.(...) The etched surface is now completely dried(...) and placed horizontally on plasticene with the polished surface up. As soon as the surface is more or less ’room dry’, acetone is carefully poured over the surface and continually squirted over the surface with a small pipette. The acetate sheet is immediately rolled on during this process.(...) The acetate sheet is pressed down with the finger and gently held down for about 5-10 minutes so that the peel can shrink. This shows itself in a slight waviness of the surface. The film is then carefully lifted off.

OBS
