ACOS Process. The acid catalyzed organo-solv process utilized acetone in a high temperature and pressure reactor dissolved the lignin, allowing the dilute acid within the solution to hydrolyze the cellulose into fermentable sugars. The water and acetone were recycled lowering waste production and input costs. Recovery of the fermentable sugars was 95% of theoretical, and the lignin was easily recovered for purification and further processing.
