In health, agriculture, and government, the word "organophosphates" refers to a group of insecticides or nerve agents acting on the enzyme acetylcholinesterase(the pesticide group carbamates also act on this enzyme, but through a different mechanism). The term is used often to describe virtually any organic phosphorus(V)-containing compound, especially when dealing with neurotoxins... Organophosphate pesticides(as well as sarin and VX nerve gas) irreversibly inactivate acetylcholinesterase, which is essential to nerve function in insects, humans, and many other animals. Organophosphate pesticides affect this enzyme in varied ways, and thus in their potential for poisoning. 3, record 1, English, - organophosphate%20pesticide

2, record 2, French, - fasciculine

The GSP-11 uses a photodetector to detect a color change on a tape that has been treated with a reagent. Nerve agents set off both an audible and a visible alarm. The GSP-11 uses biochemical reaction(acetylcholinesterase inhibition) chemistry. Consequently, it can detect both V-type nerve agents and G-type nerve agents, including GA(Tabun), GB(Sarin), GD(Soman), GF(Cyclosarin) and VF.... The GSP-11 may be used for fixed-point continuous air monitoring or it may be mounted in reconnaissance vehicles. 1, record 3, English, - GSP%2D11

Irreversible inhibition occurs when the inhibitor molecule combines irreversibly with the enzyme, chemically modifying its structure and abolishing or greatly reducing its activity. An example is di-isopropylfluorosphosphate(DFP) which inhibits enzymes which have reactive serine groups in their active sites, such as acetylcholinesterase. Thus they act as probes of the active site and as nerve poisons. Another example is heavy metals such as lead or mercury which react with SH groups in the active site of enzymes. 1, record 7, English, - irreversible%20inhibition

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 CONT
2, record 7, French, - inhibition%20irr%C3%A9versible
