CONT

Socioeconomic status(SES)(a measure of an individual' s or family's social position relative to others) is linked to adiposity, with those from lower SES backgrounds in high-income countries found to indulge in more obesogenic behaviours, such as eating more energy-dense food and being less physically active.

WC [waist circumference] and calf circumference(CC) are simple and non-invasive measures that have been proposed as markers of adiposity and muscle mass, respectively, and have been used to assess frailty... The waist-calf circumference ratio(WCR) is [an] index that combines both measures, serving as an effective method for evaluating the imbalance between abdominal fat and leg muscle mass. WCR has been proposed as a reliable predictor of cognitive impairment..., carotid atherosclerosis..., and health-related quality of life..., and has been shown to be a superior predictor of health outcomes compared to BMI [body mass index], WC, or CC alone.

CONT

A simple way of classifying obesity would be to separate it into categories : early-and late-onset obesity. Early-onset obesity, predominantly inherited, gives a large body size with a moderate increase to cardiovascular health risks; late-onset obesity, however, is predominantly lifestyle dependent, giving visceral adiposity with a greater increase in cardiovascular health risks.

A condition, more commonly seen in females, due to hyperadrenocorticism resulting from neoplasms of the adrenal cortex or the anterior lobe of the pituitary, or to prolonged excessive intake of glucocorticoids for therapeutic purposes.

OBS

The symptoms and signs may include rapidly developing adiposity of the face, neck, and trunk, kyphosis caused by osteoporosis of the spine, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, amenorrhea, hypertrichosis in females, impotence in males, dusky complexion with purple markings, polycythemia, pain in the abdomen and back, and muscular wasting and weakness.
