DEF

Turbulence that causes changes in altitude or attitude, but in which the aircraft remains in control at all times, and that usually causes variations in indicated airspeed(IAS)... or turbulence that causes rapid bumps or jolts without appreciable changes in aircraft altitude or attitude(this could be reported as “moderate chop”).

OBS

moderate turbulence: term standardized by the Glossary for Pilots and Air Traffic Services Personnel Committee.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère

DEF

CONT

The elevator feel system supplies feel forces to the control system. The feel forces developed will vary depending upon airspeed and stabilizer trim. The feel system contains two basic units : the feel and centering mechanism [and] the feel computer. The feel and centering unit consists of a cam, spring-loaded follower, two hydraulic actuators and related linkage.

OBS

The "feel" is what allows the pilot to know how much pressure is needed for system operation.

CONT

The electronic elevator feel computer (EEFC ...) monitors the aircraft’s speed, altitude, and stabilizer position to calculate, and deliver, a hydraulic pressure to the aircraft’s elevator feel system, ultimately supplying the tactile feel force in the pilots yoke.

CONT

The elevator feel computer provides simulated aerodynamic forces using airspeed(from the Elevator Pitot System) and stabilizer position. Feel is transmitted to the control columns by the elevator feel and centering unit. To operate the feel system the elevator feel computer uses either Hydraulic System A or B pressure, whichever is higher. When either hydraulic system or elevator feel pitot system fails, excessive differential hydraulic pressure is sensed in the elevator feel computer and the FEEL DIFF PRESS Light illuminates.

In the performance category are airspeed, altitude, vertical velocity, heading, turn rate, slip/skid rate, angle of attack, acceleration(G loading), and flight path(velocity vector).

The instrumentation package... also contains a transponder-like radio link which transmits all this information down on command from the second sub-system, the ground tracking station network... the third sub-system-the Control and Computation facility... precise aircraft position determination, and data formatting prior to reaching the fourth... sub-system... the Display and Debriefing Sub-system.
