CONT

Subunit influenza vaccination in adults with asthma : effect on clinical state, airway reactivity, and antibody response.

CONT

The requirement for polymorphonuclear leukocytes in the late asthmatic response and heightened airways reactivity in an animal model.

Record 2 1993-02-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
CONT

Mechanism of airway hyperreactivity. Heightened airway reactivity usually occurs in patients who have late asthmatic response. The air-way hyper-responsiveness has been demonstrated after late responses induced both in the laboratory and following natural exposure to pollen.

CONT

It is a possibility than an IgE-mediated mast cell mechanism (allergy) is the original trigger of the inflammatory process. This ... appears to establish a state of hyper-responsiveness in the nasal mucosa, much like bronchial hyper-responsiveness in asthma.

OBS

When plotted logarithmically, the data showed that tracheal gangliosides decreased with an increase in airway reactivity index, suggesting a linear relation between them.(abstract)(Bronchial hyperreactivity associated with tracheal gangliosides-Science, Nov. 5, 1982; 218(4572) ;p. 569-71)
