Polysulfide-type synthetic rubber is a compound of aliphatic hydrocarbon chains linked by di-, tri-and tetra-sulfide links, manufactured from sodium polysulfide and a dihalide. Thiokol is the commercial trade name. In the manufacturing process, the sodium polysulfide is heated to 160°F.... This synthetic rubber shows oil and solvent resistance, good aging, low permeability, and has good processing characteristics.... Thiokol has been used in paint-spray hoses, oil and gasoline hoses and rollers, and as a binder. 1, record 2, English, - Thiokol%C2%AE

The original SESC technique required only slight modification for the purpose at hand. Since wood oil is virtually devoid of aliphatic hydrocarbons, the first step, elution with hexane, was omitted. Whatever amount of this fraction, F1, does exist is eluted along with the aromatic hydrocarbons by 15% benzene-hexane in the present technique. This hydrocarbon fraction is designated F1, 2.
