Detergency Evaluation and Testing[. ] The major phases of detergent evaluation, both qualitative and quantitative, are described, with illustrations of several types of equipment. Screening tests include wetting, acid and alkali stability, surface and interfacial tension, lime-soap dispersion, lather values, and others. Results for these are given for ten... detergent products.... Preparation of standard soiled fabrics includes cotton, wool, silk, and seven synthetic fabrics.... Compilation of all these methods into manual form is a great convenience to the detergent chemist. 3, record 2, English, - detergent%20chemist

Chemical peeling is based on the use of alkali materials, i. e., sodium or potassium hydroxide solutions of controlled strength and temperature. The product to be peeled, e. g., potatoes, beets, carrots, or tomatoes, is immersed in the caustic solution for a controlled length of time. The caustic diffuses through the peel layer to the layer of cells connecting the peel to the edible material. 2, record 17, English, - chemical%20peeling

Proteases act on proteins and break them down into smaller units. Some proteases are useful in breadmaking because they reduce mixing time and produce a more pliable, extensible dough with good handling properties. Sound flour has very little proteolytic activity. If required, proteases may be added in the form of malted cereal flours or various fungal protease preparations. Proteolytic enzymes require time to achieve their full effect on dough. In the sponge-and-dough process, protease is usually added to the sponge stage to give the enzyme more time to act and eliminate the inhibiting effect of salt which is added at the dough stage. 2, record 68, English, - proteolytic%20enzyme

2, record 68, French, - enzyme%20prot%C3%A9olytique

Acetic acid is the most extensively used organic acid, and is obtained either by the oxidation of alcohol and aldehyde, or by the destructive distillation of wood and carbohydrates in general. This yields an impure pyroligneous vinegar, which is subsequently purified.... Stahl proposed in 1700 a method to obtain acetic acid from vinegar by exposing the latter substance to a freezing temperature, separating the ice from the stronger acid; another method he suggested was to neutralize with an alkali and to evaporate, then distilling with an equal amount of sulphuric acid. In 1759 Count de Lauraguais obtained a crystallized acetic acid in a distillate of cuprum acetate, then known as "copper spirit. "The name glacial acetic acid was affixed to this substance by Löwitz(1793), who repeatedly distilled diluted acetic acid with powdered charcoal, and obtained thereby a crystalline acid by subjecting the product to a low temperature. 5, record 73, English, - glacial%20acetic%20acid

2, record 97, Spanish, - cloruro%20merc%C3%BArico

According to the actual chemical nomenclature rules in organic chemistry (in 2003), the numbers designating the positions of the disubstitution groups (1,2- for "ortho-", 1,3- for "meta-" and 1,4- for "para-") are to be preferred to the symbols "o-", "m-" and "p-". Furthermore, the prefixes "ortho-", "meta-" and "para-" should not be used anymore, and their corresponding abbreviations ("o-", "m-", and "p-") will soon be judged to be avoided, if not totally condemned. 3, record 99, English, - 3%2Dchlorophenol
