Slow flight is... the name given to a training maneuver where a pilot(often accompanied by a flight instructor) flies to a safe altitude and then deliberately slows the airplane to a speed just above its stall speed. This maneuver is valuable in that it teaches the pilot to maintain control of the aircraft in adverse conditions; it requires coordination between hands and feet in order to maintain coordinated flight; and it reminds the pilot of the signs and symptoms of a stall, attuning the pilot to recognize them should they occur in an emergency. 3, record 8, English, - slow%20flying

StratSat provides a geo-stationary platform at 20 km altitude capable of remaining on-station for up to five years. Payloads include high speed Internet services, direct broadcast TV, mobile telecommunication, etc. The envelope operates as a super-pressure hull(i. e. with no ballonet pressure control system). The hull will be of laminated fabric construction with Tedlar/Teflon, helium/weather barrier developed from AT-10/04. Multiple catenary curtain system supporting a payload module enclosed completely by the envelope. [The] payload module... comprises a single structural module with an externally mounted payload/mission system. The payload module provides a home for all of the airship's primary systems except for the propulsion system. The systems are close packed within the highly insulated module ensuring efficient heat and energy management. The payload module is pendulum stabilised within the envelope. The solar array provides the sole source of renewable energy for the airship. The array is placed over the upper quarter of the hull and extends over approximately three-quarters of the length of the craft. The array can be realigned to the daily sun location/angle by the roll rotation of the whole airship. The energy collected by the solar array is stored for use during the night in the series of batteries. Located in the stored for use during the night in a series of batteries. Located in the payload module, the batteries run the propulsion system, airship services and provide power to the mission system for up to 14 hours(during winter). The airship is propelled and steered by means of a ’Contra-Rotating Coned Rotor’ mounted on a tailcone at the rear of the envelope, as a part of a compound propulsion system. The unit provides longitudinal thrust(to counter the prevailing stratospheric winds) and lateral force(for manoeuvering) to enable the airship to hold station within a 1 km cube. The airship will be equipped with a multi-channel Flight Control Sy 7, record 16, English, - StratSat%C2%AE

The aircraft's flight control system primarily comprises a triply redundant command stability augmentation system(CSAS) using fly-by-wire and autostabilization, and an autopilot/flight director(APFD). Coupled with the nav/attack system, these allow the aircraft to fly with high stability and near-sonic speed at 200 ft(61 m) above ground level in all weathers. Over known flat surfaces, such as southern Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War, altitude can be further reduced by reliance on the radar altimeter alone. 3, record 32, English, - command%20stability%20augmentation%20system

... The Progress supply vehicle to the ISS [International Space Station] is an automated version of the Soyuz, and was developed to carry propellant and cargo to the Salyut and Mir space station. It will serve the same purpose for the ISS. Although the ISS has its own propulsion system, generally it is the Progress vehicle that will perform periodic reboost maneuvers to maintain the ISS orbital altitude. The Progress is approximately the same size as the Soyuz, but it has a slightly higher mass at launch of approximately 7150 kg. The Progress spacecraft docks automatically to the ISS, and the TORU [Teleoperated Control System-Manual Docking System on Zarya] system acts as a backup remote control docking system. Progress is composed of three modules : the Cargo Module, the Refueling Module, and the Instrument/Propulsion Module. A modified version of the Progress M, called the Progress M1, is planned for operation with the ISS. This version will have more propellant tanks for refueling, as the entire Refueling Module is devoted to fuel. Water will be carried in the Cargo Module. The Progress payload includes cargo in the pressurized Cargo Module and propellant in the Refueling Module. Excess propellant that is usually in the propulsion system tanks in the Instrumentation/Propulsion Module can also be used by the ISS. 10, record 40, English, - Progress%20supply%20vehicle

LANTIRN consists of a navigation pod and a targeting pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft. The AN/AAQ-13 navigation pod provides high-speed penetration and precision attack on tactical targets at night and in adverse weather. The naviation pod also contains a terrain-following radar and a fixed infrared sensor, which provides a visual cue and input to the aircraft's flight control system, enabling it to maintain a preselected altitude above the terrain and avoid obstacles. This sensor displays an infrared image of the terrain in front of the aircraft, to the pilot, on a head-up display. The navigation pod enables the pilot to fly along the general contour of the terrain at high speed, using mountains, valleys and the cover of darkness to avoid detection. 2, record 41, English, - navigation%20pod

The basic elements of much of the new technology can already be seen in operation. They include intelligent flight control in which, for example, simple stall warning devices and stick pushers are replaced by a flight control sub-system which positively controls angle of attack, applies engine power to maintain height or flight speed, and actively maintains the aircraft in the correct altitude for optimum performance if a full nose-up demand is maintained for a protracted period. 1, record 57, English, - intelligent%20flight%20control
