DEF

The utilization of the inactivity periods that always exist in both transmission directions of a telephone conversation. The interpolation is used in order to increase the efficiency and lower the cost of long distance links. Analog signals with quiescent periods or long vowels are compressed, for example by time assignment speech interpolation, transmitted, and expanded by inverse compression(expansion) at the receiving end. This principle... is now being developed for digital speech [and] when pulse code modulation is used, the process is known as digital speech interpolation.

CONT

The gyros are used to maintain the platform’s inertial orientation by sensing rotations of the platform caused by vehicle-rotation-induced friction at the gimbal pivot points ... One gyro - called the vertical gyro - is oriented so its input axes are aligned with the X and Y platform axes; its input axes provide IMU [Inertial Measurement Unit] platform roll and pitch stabilization. The second gyro is oriented so that one input axis lies along the platform’s Z axis and the other lies in the X-Y plane. This gyro - the azimuth gyro - provides platform yaw stabilization with the Z input axis, while the second input axis is used as a platform rate detector for built-in test equipment.

CONT

The sensors for angular velocity are vibrating gyroscopes(3 axes, to detect rotation and pitch/roll pendulations of the payload). An error signal is obtained differencing the signal from the azimuth gyroscope and a constant level settable from the telemetry, which controls the speed of rotation. Such error signal drives an analog PID [Proportional Integral Differential] circuit; the output of the PID is connected to the PWM [Pulse Width Modulation] driver supplying current to the pivot azimuth motors.

The DRS TA-1035(A)/U Digital Non-secure Voice Telephone (DNVT) with digital data port is a four-wire telephone set which transmits and receives conditioned diphase-modulated digital data, digitized voice and digital loop signaling at 16 or 32 kbps. Loop signaling consists of sequences of cyclically permuted 8-bit control words, each word having minimal correlation with any other word. Loop signaling conforms to Tri-Tac Standards.

OBS

Once a call is established, the TA-1035(A)/U can alternate between voice and data modes. For voice communications, the DNVT uses continuously variable slope delta modulation encoding/decoding at 16 or 32 kbps. Extension network analog data interface is provided via the data port. For data communications, the TA-1035/U data adapter interfaces directly with standard Data Terminal Equipment(DE) such as the AN/UXC-7 tactical facsimile machine and AN/UGC-144 communications terminal. Data calls may be placed manually via keypad or automatically via extension dialing through the data port.

DEF

In digital communications and radiotelegraphy, a type of modulation in which the phase angle of the carrier wave is shifted between two discrete values corresponding to digital ones and zeros representing the modulating signal.

OBS

PSK is similar to phase modulation, but the latter is analog in that the carrier phase angle varies continuously to follow the modulating signal' s instantaneous amplitude, instead of "jumping" between two set values.

phase shift keying; PSK: term and abbreviation standardized by ISO and CSA International.
