Subject field(s)
  • Telephony and Microwave Technology
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Information Processing (Informatics)
DEF

An acoustic signal produced by the human vocal tract (or a simulation thereof). (ISO/CEI, 2382-29, 1996).

DEF

Sound waves produced by humans through the vocal cords. (ISO/IEC, JTC1/SC1, N1609, 1994).

OBS

The electrical analog of the acoustical wave generated by the telephone user.(ENBELL, 80 : 119)... the magnitude of the telephone speech signal must be measured and characterized in a fashion that can be used in designing and operating transmission systems, so that acceptable voice channel characteristics can be obtained.(ENBELL, 80 : 120)

OBS

Compare to acoustic signal and speech signal.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Téléphonie et techniques hyperfréquences
  • Intelligence artificielle
  • Traitement de l'information (Informatique)
OBS

DEF

The utilization of the inactivity periods that always exist in both transmission directions of a telephone conversation. The interpolation is used in order to increase the efficiency and lower the cost of long distance links. Analog signals with quiescent periods or long vowels are compressed, for example by time assignment speech interpolation, transmitted, and expanded by inverse compression(expansion) at the receiving end. This principle... is now being developed for digital speech [and] when pulse code modulation is used, the process is known as digital speech interpolation.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radiotelephony
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
OBS

Similar to analog radio channel but using digital transmission to a digital mobile telephone. In North America TDMA digital, each radio channel can currently carry three simultaneous conversations; in the future, this will increase to six or more conversations.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radiotéléphonie
  • Émission et réception radio
DEF
