ANALOG WAVEFORM [6 records]

Subject field(s)

CONT

An analog synthesizer generates its sound by electricity passing through capacitors, resisters and other electronic components. The electricity flows through continuously like water, and the sound it produces is a continuous wave. On a digital synthesizer the sound is constructed incrementally by stringing together hundreds of digitized samples or "snapshots" of a sound to simulate a waveform.

CONT

How do analog sampling oscilloscopes achieve [their] accuracy... The trigger event occurs several dozen nanoseconds ahead of the sample point and initiates a variable monostable that causes successive sample points to occur at an increasing distance from the trigger event. Thus the analog sampling oscilloscope can build up a stable display of a waveform, which is many times faster than the sample rate.

CONT

Oscilloscopes... come in analog and digital types... a digital oscilloscope samples the waveform and uses an analog-to-digital converter(or ADC) to convert the voltage being measured into digital information. It then uses this digital information to reconstruct the waveform on the screen.

DEF

Any method of recording in which some characteristic of the recording signal, such as amplitude or frequency, is continuously varied in a manner analogous to the time variations of the original signal.

CONT

By using analog recording, you can record waveform data over a specified range on a continuous chart with the time axis expanded. Digital recording lets you record data over a specified range as digital values.

DEF

CONT

The representation of a general pulse transmission system is given in Figure 8. 1. Here, the information input to the system is encoded in some sense.... This encoded signal drives the modulator, which maps the pulse sequence into an analog wave suitable for transmission over the channel.... At the receiving end, the demodulator maps the received analog waveform into a pulse sequence that is a "best guess" of the sequence transmitted. The decoder operates on the binary sequence to extract the information originally impressed on the encoder. The overall objective is to transfer the information from the input to the output within some a priori specified low error rate, where the error rate is the average number of disagreements per unit of time between the inputs and the outputs.
