English

Subject field(s)
  • Applications of Automation
DEF

A sensor which has some sort of preprocessor associated with it that performs at least an analog-to-digital conversion on the sensory data, and most often performs scaling, filtering, formatting, analysis, and coordinate transformations as well.

CONT

The second sensor interface is suitable for complex sensors in the tactile and visual modes.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Automatisation et applications
DEF

Record 4 2010-07-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Mathematics
  • Telecommunications
DEF

An error caused by conversion of a variable having a continuous range of valves to a quantized form having only discrete valves, as in analog-to-digital conversion. The error is the difference between the original(analog) value and its quantized(digital) representation.

CONT

The ideal resolution of these converters is equal to the value of the LSB or 2-n for an n-bit converter. For A-D converters, associated with this resolution is an inherent quantization error, which reflects an uncertainty in the results of A-D conversion due to quantification of the analog signal.

Record 5 2009-07-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electronics
DEF

An electronic process in which a continuously variable (analog) signal is changed, without altering its essential content, into a multi-level (digital) signal.

CONT

In analog-to-digital conversion, continuously varying functions(e. g. the output of a microphone) are transformed into digital sequences from which one then hopes to be able to reconstruct a close approximation to the original function.

CONT

Analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC) involves the conversion of the analogue voltage levels of an analogue signal into ones and zeros of a digital word. It is normally conducted by taking regular samples of the analogue signal and converting the voltage level into a binary value.

Key term(s)
  • analog to digital conversion

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électronique
DEF

Record 6 2009-07-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Measurements
  • Electronics
CONT

In selecting an analog-to-digital converter for a particular CCD [charge-coupled device]] application, there is often a trade-off between cost and performance. Certain applications may require only low bit(i. e., coarse) resolution at very slow conversion rates. For example, the application may require only 4 bits of resolution at a 1-ms conversion rate for very low cost.

OBS

conversion rate: term standardized by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures électriques
  • Électronique
CONT

CONT

In the field of ADC(analog-to-digital conversion), two main techniques are used : the successive-approximation technique, and the dual-slope integration. In the successive-approximation technique, an analog input value is compared to the analog value of a counter and progressively, a finer approximation is generated.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement de l'information (Informatique)
DEF
