OBS

These fittings are usually of stainless steel or aluminum and can be fixed or pivoting. The chain rides over one or more Teflon® or metal rollers. Models with side-by-side rollers can simultaneously handle two anchors for dual mooring. Some are recessed into the bow, while others are on deck.

The most common type of steel expansion bearings … or shoes used by INDOT [Indiana Department of Transportation] consist of three major parts : a top shoe, an expansion roller, and an expansion plate. The top shoe, sometimes called a sole plate, connects the expansion roller to the beam or girder. The expansion roller is curved at the top and bottom to accommodate longitudinal movement through a rocking motion. The expansion shoe, sometimes referred to as a masonry plate, connects the expansion roller to the bridge seat or to a recessed anchor plate.

Installation of band shaped drains.... is accomplished using a dragline, a hydraulic crane or a pile driver, provided with a hanging post, along which the introduction lance which is vertically leaded can move up and down.... The drain reel is placed in a store-house, which is attached to the scaffold and then conducted from this store-house over a guide roller by the introduction lance. At the end of the introduction lance, the drain is provided with an anchor plate.

The application of geotextiles for prefabricated drains. Until the seventies, vertical drainage systems were mainly being applied in the form of sand drains.
