CVGs [Coriolis vibrating gyroscope] have three features in common : a mechanical resonator, an oscillator and a force-displacement sensor. One mode of the resonator is maintained in resonance by an oscillator loop while oscillations are induced in a second vibration mode. The amplitude of the oscillations gives a signal proportional to the input angular rate. A wide variety of resonators, actuation and sensing schemes are possible. The simplest resonator is a tuning fork. 2, record 1, English, - mechanical%20resonator

... the following characteristics can be those of a rate gyro designed to measure a rate of turn up to 100 DEG per second. The mechanical resonator comprises four beams each having a cross-section of 6 mm by 6 mm, and each 30-35 mm long. The piezo-electric elements are constituted by pellets of PZT having a thickness of a few tenths of a millimeter, metal-coated on both faces, and bonded to the beams. 3, record 1, English, - mechanical%20resonator

1, record 1, French, - r%C3%A9sonateur%20m%C3%A9canique

Angular rate gyro accuracy is characterized by two parameters: scale factor and drift. The scale factor describes the capability of the gyro to accurately sense angular velocity at different angular rates. This value is used to convert the voltage output from the gyro into an angular rate. System imperfections can cause small variations in the scale factor. These variations appear as a factor at the output of the gyro. Gyro drift characterizes the ability of the gyro to reference all rate measurements to the nominal zero point. 1, record 3, English, - angular%20rate%20gyro

If the weight is increased, the rate of precession is increased. If the weight is decreased, the rate of the precession is decreased and the ellipse will broaden. The period of oscillation for undamped gyro is 113 minutes, and as the spin axis seek the meridian some means is required to suppress this oscillation so that it will come to rest in north direction. 3, record 4, English, - rate%20of%20precession

A further use of gyroscopes is found in their employment as stabilizers, as on aircraft and ships, to keep inertial guidance systems steady despite the sometimes violent motions of the vehicles. In such cases the gyroscope is made very large and given a large amount of angular momentum. The rate of precession will then be very small, since the precession is inversely proportional to the angular momentum; this small rate of precession means that the system resists angular displacements. 4, record 4, English, - rate%20of%20precession
