An azo dye used as an acid-base indicator; used for titrations involving weak bases.

CONT

Methyl orange is an intensely colored compound used in dyeing and printing textiles. It is also known as C. I. Acid Orange 52, C. I. 13025, helianthine B, Orange III, Gold orange, and Tropaeolin D. Chemists use methyl orange as an indicator in the titration of weak bases with strong acids. It changes from red(at pH 3. 1) to orange-yellow(at pH 4. 4).... Methyl orange is synthesized by reaction of sulfanilic acid, sodium nitrite, and dimethylaniline.

DEF

An opaque film leader used in conforming original film for A and B roll printing.

CONT

Black leader ... is what the negative cutter uses when preparing A&B rolls. It is very important that it be emulsion leader rather than plastic leader when used for A&B rolls, since plastic leader cannot be cement spliced.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cinematography
DEF

Method of printing cine film which enables optical effects, cross cuts, etc., to be inserted into the release print without using splices. The edited master negative(or reversal positive) shots are not joined in sequence on one roll but distributed between two rolls(A and B) which are made of equal length by splicing in black leader wherever A or B is not to print. The two rolls are then printed onto one film.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cinématographie
DEF

English

Subject field(s)

DEF

A method of hiding or making splices invisible in A & B roll editing. Each end of every scene that is cut into the checkerboard rolls prepared by the film editor is extended by at least two frames before being spliced to the blank leader that separates one scene from the others. During laboratory printing, the change from one roll to the next will not show splices because with this method there are none at the cut points.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cinematography
DEF

A method of editing and subsequently printing the picture information from two separate rolls of 16mm film to produce a composite print. Arranged and spliced together by the film editor in checkerboard fashion, the picture information in each roll, the A and the B, is reexposed by the laboratory on raw stock, thus producing a composite on one length of film.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cinématographie
DEF
