As sound waves leave one medium and enter another, such as an air borne wave in a room reaching a brick wall, the wave will undergo certain characteristics. A portion of the wave will attempt to pass through the medium, while the balance of the wave will reflect back off the wall. Sound wave reflection occurs with that portion of the energy that stays contained to within the room. 1, record 1, English, - sound%20wave%20reflection

Double rainbows are fairly common.... the primary rainbow appears opposite the sun at an angular distance of about 42 degrees from the antisolar point. The primary bow is the result of a refraction as a ray of sunlight enters the drop, one internal reflection off the back of the drop, and a second refraction as the ray exits the drop. The geometry for the secondary bow is similar except that there are two internal reflections inside the drop. This geometry results in the appearance of the secondary rainbow at an angular distance of about 51 degrees, outside the primary bow. 2, record 2, English, - primary%20rainbow

Laser Position Measurement. A commercially available position measuring device, Lasernet, was donated by the Namco Controls Corporation. A single narrow-beam laser is continuously swept across the field at a fixed height. A reflector of known geometry on the vehicle reflects the beam back to the device, which reports the initial angle, in the local geographic frame, at which a reflection is detected and the angular width over which the reflection is continuously detected. Knowing the geometry of the reflector, which should be independent of the heading of the aircraft, is sufficient to determine the vehicle's two-dimensional position in the local geographic frame. 1, record 7, English, - position%20measuring%20device

Lock-in is a fundamental physical phenomenon associated with all oscillating devices. Laser gyros exibit the same phenomenon, in that the coupling mechanism is the reflection of light from one laser beam back along the path where it interacts with the oppositley traveling beam. This is called backscatter and is caused primarily by imperfect mirrors. Therefore, at low rotation rates, there is no frequency difference between the counter-rotating beams so that the gyroscope does not indicate any rotation. In spite of the ring laser gyro's dead zone whith lock-in thresholds on the order of hundreds of degrees per hour, it is still feasible to obtain measurements of rotation rates of less than 1 deg/h. 1, record 12, English, - ring%20laser%20gyro%26rsquo%3Bs%20dead%20zone

3, record 12, French, - zone%20aveugle

Lock-in is a fundamental physical phenomenon associated with all oscillating devices. Laser gyros exhibit the same phenomenon, in that the coupling mechanism is the reflection of light from one laser beam back along the path where it interacts with the oppositely traveling beam. This is called backscatter and is caused primarily by imperfect mirrors. 4, record 13, English, - backscatter

Record number: 13, Textual support number: 2 CONT
3, record 13, French, - r%C3%A9trodiffusion
