Selon la source REYAN, le mot «penthouse» désigne presque toujours une réalité étrangère, puisque la chose n'est pas répandue dans l'architecture française [et] l'équivalent culturel serait le «duplex», l'«appartement à terrasse», etc. Nous croyons cependant que la réalité des «penthouses» s'est, au contraire, largement répandue, et que le terme «penthouse» est très bien ancré dans l'usage. De plus, sa charge émotive est très riche. Il rend très bien l'aspect prestigieux que revêt une construction de ce type, il a beaucoup plus de mordant. Peut-être conviendrait-il tout au plus de le mettre entre guillemets. Il est en effet toujours indiqué dans les sources comme un anglicisme (dans le Grand Robert notamment).

Nous pensons que les termes «appartement-terrasse» et «appartement de terrasse» sont peut-être acceptables, si on considère qu'ils constituent l'ellipse pour «appartement construit sur un toit-terrasse». Par contre, nous pensons que «appartement à terrasse» (suggéré par la source REYAN), n'est pas recommandable. Parce que ce terme ne sous-entend pas que l'appartement est situé sur une toiture-terrasse, mais qu'il comporte une terrasse (autre sens de «terrasse»). Or, il se trouve que ce n'est pas toujours le cas. Les «penthouses» ne sont pas toujours entourés d'une terrasse. Quant à «duplex», que suggère encore la source REYAN, il s'agit d'autre chose. En France, ce terme signifie «appartement sur deux étages» et, au Québec, «maison à deux logements». Voir les définitions du terme «terrasse» qui suivent.

Should it run past the signal, it will get "tripped" by the trainstop of A125. However, there is insufficient room for the train to stop before it collides with the first train. The safe braking distance is too short. To overcome this situation, each signal is moved back a safe braking distance from the entrance to the block. This distance is called the overlap... A floating flame is an indication that there is a lack of secondary air to the flame. In severe cases, the flame will leave the burner and have the appearance of a floating cloud. Again, the intermediate products of combustion are apt to escape from place to place wherever sufficient air for combustion may be found. This flame is sometimes hard to detect because, as the door to the equipment is opened sufficient air will be admitted to allow the flame to rest on the burner properly. However, the obnoxious odor of aldehydes may still be detected. Another possible cause of this flame is an improperly operating vent system. If the products of combustion cannot escape, fresh air cannot reach the flame

When a flame raises off the burner it is important to determine if it is a "lifting flame" or a "floating flame" :"Lifting Flames" rise from the ports to burn some distance above the ports. In some cases these flames will drop back to the port and lift again intermittently. They are caused by too much primary air. Decreasing the shutter opening will stop lifting flames. "Floating Flames" are long and lazy looking, poorly defined, quiet flames which roll around the combustion chamber sometimes completely off the ports. Floating flames result from too little secondary or "make up" air. Lack of secondary air can be caused by incorrect venting, clogged flueways, blocked secondary air inlet openings, or lack of natural room makeup air to the oven.

As the pipe burster hammers through old pipe, the expander moves broken fragments and dirt out of the way to make room for new pipe, which is attached to the back of the tool and follows it into the void. After the new pipe is in place, crews connect service laterals at specified locations.

The condenser is also a Model no. 06036 shell and tube exchanger, identical to the reboiler with a few modifications : The baffles have been cut at the bottom where they meet the shell to allow condensate to flow out of the shell. The tube side has four passes for maximum heat transfer on the tube side. It is mounted nearly horizontally. The inlet end is a couple of inches higher than the outlet to allow condensate to drain out the low end. A few tubes have been removed at the top to give the vapor more room to distribute itself along the length of the shell. There is a vent on the shell side near the outlet end to allow non-condensable gases to leave. The vent gases pass through the inside of a 36" double pipe condenser so that any condensable gasses will condense out and run down the walls back into the condenser.
