The Canadian Aboriginal Science and Engineering Association is a private, non-profit organization, which seeks to significantly increase the number of Aboriginal scientists and engineers in the nation and to develop technologically informed leasers within the Aboriginal community. CASEA's ultimate goal is to be catalyst for the advancement of Aboriginal peoples as they seek to become self-reliant and self-determined members of society. CESEA in partnership with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society begins working as early as elementary school through the development of science and math camps, teacher training and mentor ship programs to strengthen Aboriginal students’ educational background in math and science, and to prepare them for the academic pressures of post-secondary school life. At the college and university levels, scholarships will be developed and sought from corporate sponsors. Recruiting opportunities to further prepare Aboriginal students for successful science and engineering careers will be available through the CASEA contact network. Each CASEA student is asked to give back to the Aboriginal community after graduation; thus CASEA students become more than professionals in the technology field, they become architects of a new destiny for Aboriginal peoples.

Where the Spirit Lives(1989) is a drama film about Aboriginal children getting taken from their tribes to attend residential schools. The setting is in Canada. Ashto-omi is a young Aboriginal girl taken by an Indian Agent, Taggert. Her younger brother Pita and other children are also lured into the airplane using candy canes. The two newcomers are forcefully renamed with names associated with Christianity. Ashto-Komi's name is changed to Amelia(no. 61) while Pita's is changed to Abraham(no. 67). Kathleen Gwillemberry is a new teacher to the school. Ashto-Komi gets stripped and scrubbed. Her hair is cut and scrubbed. Her hair is cut short. The old native style clothing is gone and gets replaced with uniforms. The children get a small amount of food to eat and are forced to do prayers every morning to become Christians. Ashto-Komi talks her language and gets beaten by the teacher. She did not know they were forbidden to talk their native language. Gwillemberry says they are poor children that don’t know any English after teaching her new class. Reverend Buckely replies and says "The children are like a garden, in order to maintain the beautiful flowers you need to pull all the weeds out and cut them back. "

"Survival of the cells is more critical in certain applications, however. If we take an artificial tissue out of the freezer, thaw it, and half of it is gone, that's a problem. If a patient comes in with a burn injury, we don’t have time to wait for the cells to grow back. "As a graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Karlsson was interested in research at Harvard Medical School to develop an artificial liver. He was intrigued to learn that, even if the project were successful, existing technology could not preserve the organ for shipping or storage before transplantation.

CONT
