The process by which multiple fractures are created along the horizontal section of the wellbore in a series of consecutive operations.

CONT

Using mechanical means or fluid pressure, each segment of the horizontal wellbore is isolated and fractured individually. Frac fluid is pumped from the surface at a predetermined and constantly monitored rate to the "toe, "the farthest isolated segment in the horizontal section. When the fracture is created, proppant-laden fluid is pumped into the fracture to keep it open. Once complete, the process is repeated for each segment in the wellbore, working back towards the "heel. "

The terms "fraccing" and "fracing," short for "fracturing," are pronounced "fracking."

This famous wheat, commonly known as Red Fife or Scotch Fife in North America, is called "red" because that is its colour when fully ripe and "Fife" after David Fife, the Ontario farmer who was the first to grow it in North America when he sowed it on his farm in 1842. The story of how it got there has taken on aspects of myth and legend. It takes place at various locations across two continents : one often needs to look ahead in time, then back, to understand how it happened.(This section is based on Buller, Chapter III, sec. 23, p. 206-218).

Le nouveau procédé se faisait à l'aide d'un sasseur et de cylindres en fer plutôt que de pierres pour moudre le blé. Dans les années 1880, l'expansion des chemins de fer et l'attrait des profits réalisés en semant le blé Red Fife ont encouragé les gens à s'installer dans les Prairies. Les chemins de fer ont lancé la manutention en vrac du grain.

The product then flows to the timing pump, which controls the product flow rate of the system. Pre-heated raw product enters the heater section from the timing pump and is heated to the sterilizing temperature before entering the holding tube. Processed product from the holding tube enters the sterile regenerator section where it is pre-cooled by incoming product form the raw regenerator. The Experiment Logistics Module Exposed Section(ELM-ES) is a JEM component which carries experiment payloads, JEM's Small Fine Arm(SFA) and Exposed Facility(EF) system ORUs [Orbital Replaceable Units]. It will supply devices to and from the EF [Exposed Facility]. This ELM-ES will be carried to orbit by the Space Shuttle where it will be operated after being connected to EF. After ELM-ES is connected to the EF, experiment payloads attached to ELM-ES will be removed and attached to the EF using a manipulator. After experiments are finished, payloads will be removed from the EF by a manipulator and returned to the ELM-ES. Later, they will be brought back to Earth by the Space Shuttle.

With the recent installation of the current machine in the IMD (Institute of Marine Dynamics) Offshore Engineering Basin and industry’s need to investigate the effects of structure in shallow water waves and current, there is a requirement to develop modeling technique in this area. This project will develop techniques for quantifying and improving shallow water waves and their interaction with current.

The Offshore Engineering Basin, illustrated in Figure 1, is a reinforced concrete structure 75 m in length, 32 m wide with a wall height of 4 m. Water levels may be varied up to a depth of 3. 0 m. The entire basin, including the working area surrounding the basin, is serviced by a 5 tonne overhead crane. Waves are generated by means of a segment wave machine, of wet back design, in a fixed "L" configuration. Each segment supports a 2 m high by 0. 5 m wide wave board. These segments are grouped together in sections of four and each section is vertically adjustable to accommodate water depths from 0. 4 m to 3. 0 m. Adjustments are made via electrically powered jacks. Each segment can be operated in five modes of articulation : flapper("20 degrees), piston("400 mm) or three combinations of flapper and piston. These modes optimise segment motion for generating waves in deep, shallow and intermediate water depths, respectively.
