BACK SPINNING [8 records]

Record 1 2025-01-28

Subject field(s)
  • Dance
CONT

Power moves are dynamic and acrobatic movements in breakdance. They have an element of continuous rotation across one or multiple body parts, for example spinning on the head, hand or back.

CONT

In all cases, the total incident heating is greatest on the front(sunlit) face of the spacecraft, less on the side walls(spinning averages the direct solar heating), and least on the rear face and back of the solar panels. Shadowing of the sidewalls by extended solar panels reduces the incident heating... but also results in radiant interchange between the back of the panels and the sidewalls.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Textiles: Preparation and Processing
DEF

Any of several processes to remove the natural and artificial impurities in fabrics to obtain clear whites for finished fabric or in preparation for dyeing and finishing.

CONT

Bleaching is one of the most usual and important among the finishing processed. It has for its object the whitening or decolorizing of the textile fiber to which it is applied. Fibers, as they come from the plant, from the back of the sheep, or from the cocoon, are usually somewhat colored or stained. Some of them, like tussah silk or Egyptian cotton, are highly colored. This natural coloring of the fiber may be undesirable in many fabrics; hence, bleaching is employed to clear the fiber of this color. Again, most fibers accumulate stains of various kinds during the early processes of manufacture as, for example, in the spinning and weaving. This discoloration cannot be entirely removed by simple washing; hence, the bleaching process is applied to clear the fabric. In like manner, when the calicoes or other prints come from the printers, the white background between the colored figures may be soiled, spotted, or otherwise discolored; again, a light bleach is applied, but not enough appreciably to injure the color in the figures.

The walking wheel is known by many names. It is the “walking wheel” because you must stand to spin it constantly walking back and forth. It is known as the “great wheel” because it is the biggest of the wheels and it also known as the “high wheel” because it is taller than the other spinning wheels.

CONT

In Canada the "walking wheels" took on impressive proportions ... The spinner often walked as much as fifteen to twenty miles in a day’s spinning.

CONT

A more advanced type of gyro is the optical gyroscope. These devices are based on two counter-rotating beams of light travelling in a ring-like structure. The interaction of the two light beams produces a standing wave pattern. If the ring is then rotated about its centre axis(think of a torus spinning around its core), one of the beams has to travel a slightly longer distance, and the other a slightly shorter distance to get back to where they started. This will cause a shift in the pattern of the standing wave, and this can be measured to determine the rate of rotation.

CONT

Most people would remember the classic rotating disc gyroscope, which belongs to the mechanical group. One of today’s high precision gyros is still the mechanical, rotating gyro; however it is dependent on linear accelerations because of its mechanical measuring principle. The optical group comprises the fibre optic- and laser types. These use the Sagnac Effect (named after its French discoverer), which, when the sensor is turned, results in a difference in transit time between two light waves passing through the same optical path but in opposite directions. Optical gyros therefore do not depend on acceleration as gyros in the mechanical group. This is one of their biggest advantages ...

CONT
