A bodybuilding exercise performed by completing the following movements : lie on your back, bend your knees and keep your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands loosely behind your head. Curl up using the standard crunch movement and bring your right elbow and shoulder across your body while raising your left knee to bring it toward your left shoulder at the same time. Reach with your elbow and try to touch your knee. Repeat with your other arm and leg.

Standard horizontal position in traditional parachuting and formation flying. By arching your back and spreading the arms and legs, you will automatically turn belly down in freefall(kind of like a badminton [bird].

Stable Spread Position. The first and most important prerequisite is that the jumper be able to see the ground. Hence the body should be in a face down attitude. This is achieved by a "spread eagle" position. In this position the head is thrown back, eyes kept lowered to the horizon, chest raised and arms fully spread. The back is arched and legs comfortably spread apart with bend in the knees.

Why Angled Back Cuts Are Dangerous. A common sight and especially used amongst people who are new to felling trees is using an angled back cut.... On a standard horizontal back cut a wedge lifts the tree. However with an angled back cut the wedge will try to push the tree forward, against the grain. That's one problem, the other is the weight of the tree is also now mainly on the hingewood and little shared with the wedge.

The directional gyroscope forms a standard reference for the pilot and navigator. It is a three-frame gyroscope with its spin axis in the horizontal plane. As soon as tilt develops, a switch is closed between the gyroscope housing and the vertical gimbal ring and a motor introduces a torque in the horizontal plane that causes the gyroscope to precess back toward the horizontal.

The source of power for the gyro is the engine-driven vacuum pump (or venturi) which sucks air from the rear of the instrument case. This causes air under atmospheric pressure to pass through the filtering system, thence through an air bearing into the hollow vertical gimbal ring. The air then passes through the air nozzle and jets, striking the rotor at a point just above the plane of the horizontal gimbal.

Si, au contraire, on fixe l'anneau vertical dans un plan perpendiculaire au plan méridien, l'axe de rotation ne pourra plus se déplacer que dans ce plan méridien.

Mushroom arm cutter. Another special type of arm was the mushroom arm... This consisted of a standard jib with a vertical tree or turrett mounted near its end. The turret was fitted with teeth and rotated about its axis. It was driven by the cutting chain on the main jib. The mushroom device was designed to fit on to any standard-type chain coal-cutter and, like the curved jib, it allowed the operator to make a shear cut at the back of the web at the same time as the horizontal cut was being made. Other variations on this theme included units with twin mushroom jibs and units with both a curved arm and a mushroom arm on the same machine.
