The Peace Ballot of 1934-35 was a nationwide questionnaire in Britain of five questions attempting to discover the British public' s attitude to the League of Nations and collective security. Its official title was "A National Declaration on the League of Nations and Armaments. "Advocates of the League of Nations felt that a growing isolationism in Britain had to be countered by a massive demonstration that the public demanded adherence to the principles of the League. Recent failures to achieve disarmament had undermined the credibility of the League, and there were fears the National government might step back from its official stance of supporting the League.

Bosik Consultants Limited operates the National Research Council’s Flight Impact Simulator Facility in Ottawa, ON. The facility houses a large pneumatic cannon (10-inch barrel diameter, measuring approximately 75 feet in length) employed to propel birds to their targets in order to simulate bird strikes with aircraft components. Aircraft components typically impacted include windshields, wings and empennage leading edges.

NRC' s [National Research Council of Canada] flight impact simulators or bird guns have three parts : a storage reservoir(tank at the back) pressurized to the test pressure; a step chamber(half of the reservoir's pressure) ;and a barrel with sabot arrestor. The sabot, which holds the projectile, must withstand the launch, protect the projectile and crush the muzzle arrestor so that nothing but the projectile continues on to the target. Adjusting the thickness of the sabot lining helps various sizes of projectiles to fit in the barrel. The firing mechanism uses a double diaphragm method. Each diaphragm is made of very thin plastic material(Mylar).

Pole-zero cancellation(Tail cancellation) … we approximated the preamp output pulse as a step function, however, in a real preamp pulse, the falling tail is a long exponential decay instead of a simple step function. Consequently, there is a small amplitude undershoot starting at about 7τ. This undershoot decays back to baseline with the long time constant of the preamplifier. At medium to high counting rates, a substantial fraction of the amplifier output pulses will ride on the undershoot from a previous pulse. The apparent pulse amplitudes measured for these pulses will be significantly lower, which deteriorates the energy resolution. Most shaping amplifiers incorporate a pole-zero cancellation circuit to eliminate this undershoot. The benefit of pole-zero cancellation is improved peak shapes and resolution in the energy spectrum at high counting rates.

Wreaths may or may not be part of a commemorative service, though they are very common for ceremonies on November 11. During the wreath laying, appropriate music may be played, such as "Abide with Me" or "O Valiant Hearts. "The wreath is usually carried by someone walking alongside the person who is to lay the wreath. The two approach, briefly pause, exchange the wreath, place it(often on a stand), step back, pause for a moment(military personnel will salute), turn to the right and walk off. Protocol dictates the order in which the wreaths will be laid.

Every airline has maintenane program for each type of aircraft it operates. The programs are developed jointly with the manufacturers of the equipment and, as mentioned above, must be approved by the FAA. Each involves a series of increasingly complex inspection and maintenance steps pegged to an aircraft's flying time, calendar time, or number of landings and takeoffs. With each step, maintenance personnel probe deeper and deeper into the aircraft, taking apart more and more components for closer and closer inspection. A typical program involves the following(and much more) :... a major check every three-and-a-half to five years in wich aircraft are essentially taken apart and put back together again, with landing gear and many other components replaced.

Very frequently the hip and back extensors are concomitantly affected, which explains the marked lumbar lordosis with protrusion of the abdomen seen while the patient stands or walks. This type of gait is seen in patients with dystrophic myopathies affecting the hip musculature, in spinal muscular atrophy, and in dislocation of the hips.
