CONT

Electric Arc Furnace Dust (EAF Dust) is the airborne dust generated in the steel manufacturing process when metal scrap is electrically melted. It is typically only about 1.5% of the output from a typical mini-mill, but creates an environmental problem which must be handled intelligently. The material is a calcium iron silicate with contaminants of heavy metals such as lead, zinc, cadmium, chromium and others.

CONT

In a typical electric arc furnace(EAF) operation for melting iron-containing scrap, approximately one to two per cent of the charge is converted into dust which is collected in the baghouse. These EAF dusts have been classified as hazardous wastes due to their lead, cadmium and hexavalent chromium contents; however, these dusts also contain large quantities of zinc and iron whose recovery is economically attractive.

CONT

CONT

Andersen 2000 Inc and Montair Andersen bv have been responsible for many of today's standards in the area of scrubber technology. Not only do we manufacture complete packaged scrubbing systems for all types of industrial applications, we also design and manufacture scrubbers for applications including fine particulate removal, gas absorption, and dust and large particulate matter collection.... Some of the scrubber technologies available from Andersen are Venturi Scrubbers, Packed Bed Scrubbers, Ejector Scrubbers, Triven Scrubbers, and Low Energy Scrubbers. These systems all use liquid as part of the scrubbing process. And as a result, they are referred to as "Wet Scrubbers".... We also offer "Dry Scrubbers" including Dry Injection Type and the Spray Dry Absorption Type. These use a dry alkaline powder to absorb acid gases and a fabric filter Baghouse to collect particulate matter.

CONT

Bennett Remtech utilizes a dry scrubber to remove acid gases. Flue gas is quenched to approach the acid dewpoint temperature. The gas then comes into contact with a reagent such as lime. The acid gases are removed, without any required water treatment.

CONT

Baghouse Types. Baghouses are generally referred to by their construction as either compartmented or uncompartmented. The compartmented bag collector(Figure 12) is used with either reverse air flow or shaker type bag cleaning. This type of collector is divided into several compartments, each with its own damper and bag cleaning system. One compartment at a time can be taken out of service to release the dust from the bags into the bottom hopper.

CONT

Baghouse Types. Baghouses are generally referred to by their construction as either compartmented or uncompartmented. The compartmented bag collector(Figure 12) is used with either reverse air flow or shaker type bag cleaning.... The uncompartmented bag collector(Figure 13) employs the use of compressed air to sharply reverse the flow through the bags to apply a shock to the dust cake. This permits the use of high air to cloth ratios or air flow rates of 5 to 6 cfm per square foot of cloth surface.
