Perhaps the most quintessentially Breton of all instruments is the bombarde, a double-reed descendant of the medieval shawm. While it looks like a shortened version of the oboe, its tone is more vigorous and bracing... Traditionally, the bombarde is played either solo or as part of a duet or couple, alongside a biniou or a bagpipe.

A bagpipe is a wind instrument consisting of one or more musical pipes which are fed continuously by a reservoir of air in a bag. Air is supplied either by the player's breath(via a blowpipe), or a set of bellows; the inlet to the bag normally has a one-way valve which prevents air from returning via the supply.

In the Seaforth Highlanders case the bagpipe banner is hanging off the display shelf creating a crease and planar distortions which are clearly evident. Older textiles are often attached to newer textiles to provide support and reduce stresses as well as allow presentation with the entire textile artifact clearly visible. The drum clearly shows that the rim has released and there are planar distortions in the skin.

CONT

I have used Gore-Tex that is laminated onto polyester felt to remove planar distortions in textiles.
