BARE SOIL SURFACE [5 records]

Record 1 2023-02-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
  • Atmospheric Physics
  • Electromagnetic Radiation
  • The Sun (Astronomy)
CONT

Land surface temperature(LST) is the radiative skin temperature of the land derived from solar radiation. LST measures the emission of thermal radiance from the land surface where the incoming solar energy interacts with and heats the ground, or the surface of the canopy in vegetated areas. LST is a mixture of vegetation and bare soil temperatures.

Subject field(s)
  • Farming Techniques
  • Tillage Operations (Agriculture)
DEF

[The] primary and secondary tillage operations normally performed in preparing a seedbed and/or cultivating for a given crop grown in a given geographical area, usually resulting in < 30% cover of crop residues remaining on the surface after completion of the tillage sequence.

CONT

Conventional tillage incorporates or buries most of the crop residue into the soil. Typically this approach involves multiple passes in fields. The moldboard plow is often used first, followed by other implements. Since this method plows under much of the crop stubble, it leaves the surface relatively bare and without cover protection.

Domaine(s)
  • Techniques agricoles
  • Travaux du sol (Agriculture)
CONT

  • Meteorology
DEF

[Soil] erosion cause by direct impact of rain drops.

CONT

Soil erosion is the removal and loss of soil by water, ice, gravity, and wind. Water is the major culprit here in New England. The force of raindrops falling on bare or sparsely vegetated soil detaches soil particles(raindrop erosion). Water running along the ground surface picks up these particles and carries them along as it flows.

DEF

PHR

Prévenir l'érosion pluviale.

lutte, protection contre l'érosion pluviale; processus de l'érosion pluviale.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
CONT

Pollutants in particulate and gaseous forms may be deposited on the soil surface directly by processes of dry deposition. In the temperate zone, however, the ground surface is generally covered by plant canopies and, except in agricultural areas where bare soil may be exposed for a part of the year, the main receiving surface for dry-deposited pollutants is likely to be vegetation.
