A contest of basic cowboy skills that is indigenous to the ranges of the Western United States and Canada. 2, record 1, English, - rodeo
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The term "rodeo" comes from a Spanish word meaning "roundup", and the sport developed from the natural competitive urges of cowboys involved in mass roundups on the western plains. The principal events of rodeos today are bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback [bronc] riding, calf roping, and steer wrestling, with steer roping and team roping contests often added to the list. Many rodeos add some other popular events such as barrel riding(a slalom-like race for women on horseback around a number of barrels), wild-horse racing, and wild-cow milking contests essentially for the amusement of the audiences. Organized rodeos go back to the 19th century; the principal feature of Buffalo Bill Cody's famous Wild West show, which began in 1883, was the rodeo. 2, record 1, English, - rodeo

The term "horse vaulting" is a bit misleading. It brings to mind the aerial leaps performed in gymnastic competitions on a padded stationary block. But the actual sport of horse vaulting is one of the three classic disciplines of horseback riding, the other two being dressage and jumping.... While vaulting does include jumping onto and off of a moving horse, it also involves much more, as I learned on a visit to watch the Great Falls Vaulting Team practice. Led by coach Jennifer Williams, the team's members ride bareback, kneel and stand on a moving horse, and perform the sort of riding tricks you might see in a circus. 1, record 3, English, - horse%20vaulting

Saddle-bronc riding is similar to the bareback event except that the rider is mounted on a light, specialized saddle called an Association saddle. He holds on to a single piece of rope that is attached to the horse's head by a halter. As in bareback riding, the rider must use only one hand and must not touch anything with his free hand. 1, record 5, English, - saddle%2Dbronc%20riding

Monte d'un cheval sellé. (...) 1, record 5, French, - monte%20d%27un%20cheval%20sell%C3%A9
