Three successive performances of a feat by the same individual in a contest. 2, record 6, English, - hat%20trick
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The oldest use is probably in cricket, where a hat trick is the dismissal by the bowler of 3 batsmen with 3 consecutive balls, for which the bowler apparently received a bonus of new hat. The term is widely used in hockey and soccer to indicate the scoring of 3 goals by one individual in a single game. Originally the hat trick was the scoring of 3 consecutive unanswered goals, but they need not be consecutive or unanswered to qualify as a hat trick today. The term has also been used of a jockey's riding a winner in 3 consecutive races or winners in an annual race for 3 consecutive years. A notable exception to the 3 successive performances which characterize a hat trick in other sports is its occasional use in baseball to mean that a player has hit for the cycle-a single, double, triple, and home run in one game. 2, record 6, English, - hat%20trick

Jacques Plante, a goaler for the hockey team "Le Canadien de Montréal", is the first hockey player to have worn a mask in the 1960's. The practice became popular to the point that now every goaler wears a complete "mask" while many offensive players wear a "face shield, guard or protector" attached to their helmet, hence the difficulty distinguishing among the different terms. The idea is now accepted by players in many sports : ice, field or roller hockey, short-track speed skating, ringette, etc. The protection worn by the receiver in baseball stands in the same category. 8, record 11, English, - face%20mask

Rounders is an English game. It is often played as a casual game with a stick and a ball, but it has a proper set of rules. It is played 9-a-side, and each side has two innings. The batsmen use a wooden bat called a stick and try to score rounders. The bowler bowls with a smooth underarm action from a distance of 24 1/2 feet (7.5 m). The four bases are posts 3 ft. 11 in. (1.2 m) high. The batsman tries to hit the ball and then run around the outside of the posts to the fourth post in order to score a rounder. To score, you have to reach the fourth post on your own hit. If you stop at a post, you may run home when a teammate hits the ball, but you do not score. You join the end of the batting line. You can be out if the ball is caught, or if a fielder touches you or the post with the ball. When all the batsmen are out, the innings are over. 3, record 16, English, - rounders

1, record 16, French, - ronde
