[Engineers] have tried to mimic the bats’ biosonar systems by designing a veritable zoo of bat robots. Indeed, reproducing the biosonar abilities of bats in a man-made system would do far more than just satisfy a scientist's intellectual curiosity or an engineer's play instinct. Engineers working in the broad area of autonomous systems, in other words, machines that can act by themselves, have long dreamed of taking the capabilities of their creations to new levels, and bats could be just the right model system to accomplish this. 1, record 2, English, - bat%20robot

As bats are protected in Europe, developers must implement specific mitigation measures that are hierarchically structured to achieve a null net impact. However, very few specific mitigation measures have been undertaken specifically for bats. Bat overpasses(e. g. gantries) are among proposed improvements intended to reduce the impact of roads, but they have rarely been tested. The effectiveness of overpasses in facilitating safe road crossing of bats is critical for justifying the implementation of this mitigation measure. 2, record 4, English, - bat%20overpass

Fabrication [...]

Thermally bonded non-woven geotextiles are produced by spraying continuous polymer filaments on to a moving belt which is then passed through heated rollers. These compress the layer of loose filaments and cause partial melting of the polymer filaments, leading to thermal bonding at the filament cross-over points. The random distribution of the filaments as they are sprayed on to the belt ensures that each of these non-woven geotextiles contains a wider range of opening sizes than is found in a woven geotextile. The absence of any preferred orientation of the filaments, such as the warp and weft directions present in woven geotextiles, also gives non-woven geotextiles a more isotropic strength. 1, record 57, English, - thermally%20bonded%20non%2Dwoven%20geotextile
