Bedforms are structures that are moulded on beds where deposition is taking place. Current-produced bedforms are diverse, and are useful indicators of depositional processes. Most bedforms migrate over the sediment surface. As a result, sediments deposited by bedforms typically show cross-stratification. 3, record 3, English, - sedimentary%20bedform

Fluidized bed combustion systems use a heated bed of sand-like material suspended(fluidized) within a rising column of air to burn many types and classes of fuel. This technique results in a vast improvement in combustion efficiency of high moisture content fuels, and is adaptable to a variety of "waste type" fuels. The scrubbing action of the bed material on the fuel particle enhances the combustion process by stripping away the carbon dioxide and char layers that normally form around the fuel particle. This allows oxygen to reach the combustible material much more readily and increases the rate and efficiency of the combustion process. 3, record 6, English, - fluidized%20bed%20system

Each plug is loaded with an inert porous material which serves as a structural support matrix for the microorganisms. The seed cultures in the bioplugs are a mixture of microorganisms selected for their abilities to biodegrade the contaminants of concern... The bioplugs are strategically inserted into the contaminated zone(s). Liquids then flow through the plugs by a pressure gradient created using compressed air. This flow acts to accelerate the movement of ground or irrigation water through the immobilized bed; thereby, facilitating the mineralization of organics within the aqueous phase and the bulk generation of biomass which bleeds off the bed. 1, record 30, English, - bioplug

Fixed bed reactors. In fixed bed fermenters, the cells are immobilized by absorption on or entrapment in solid, non-moving solid surfaces. In one type of fixed bed fermenter, the cells are immobilized on the surfaces of immobile solid particles such as plastic blocks, concrete blocks, wood shavings or fibrous material such as plastic or glass wool. The liquid feed is either pumped through or allowed to trickle over the surface of the solids where the immobilized cells convert the substrates into products. Once steady state has been reached there will be a continuous cell loss from the solid surfaces. These types of fermenters are widely used in waste treatment and as biological filters in small aquarium water recycling systems. 1, record 40, English, - fixed%20bed

In recent years, fluidized bed combustion of biomass has become commercial practice. Two types of combustors have been developed :(1) the conventional dense-phase or bubbling bed combustor, and(2) the circulating fluidized bed combustor. Fluidized bed combustors offer several advantages. There is a high mass of inert material in the combustor, capable of absorbing energy from fuels that combust in a highly volatile fashion. The bed media contain sufficient energy that very wet fuels(e. g., 65% MCg) can be burned successfully.... Conventional dense-phase fluidized bed systems have grate release levels in the vicinity of 5. 6 GJ/m2 grate equivalent and 470 MJ/m3 of volume(Envirosphere, 1980). Rates of heat release for circulating fluidized beds are somewhat higher. 1, record 56, English, - bubbling%20bed%20combustor
