A direction sign has a black inscription on a yellow background and is used to identify the intersecting taxiways toward which an aircraft is approaching. The sign is, whenever possible, positioned to the left-hand side of the taxiway and prior to the intersection. A direction sign will always contain arrows to indicate the approximate angle of intercept. CF-18s often carry heavy munitions, which reduces the amount of fuel storage space. Inflight refuelling from tanker aircraft allows the Hornet to stay in the air longer before returning to base. The Hornet’s extendable probe plugs into a hose at the rear of the tanker. SMB-Side Marker Board(Not to be used by B747). 1. This system consists of a white base board with vertical slats mounted at specific intervals along the face of the board. 2. Each slat has a black edge. The side facing the approach direction is green and the opposite side is red. Each slat has a name tab to indicate the aircraft type to which it applies. 3. As the correct stopping position is neared, the green side of the slat gradually disappears until only the black edge is visible.
