Copias en papel al bromuro: Entre 1874 y 1880 se desarrolló un procedimiento barato y rápido para obtener múltiples copias de un negativo. Un papel recubierto con gelatina se sensibilizaba con bromuro de plata, que es mucho más sensible a la luz que otras sales de este metal. Este papel permitía hacer una copia de un negativo tras sólo unos segundos de exposición con iluminación débil. De esta forma se podían hacer copias en el laboratorio en lugar de tener que exponer la copia de papel a luz del sol como hasta entonces.
