BURNING BEHAVIOUR [8 records]

Record 1 2024-06-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Brush, Prairie and Forest Fires
  • Fire Prevention
CONT

Fires were carried out in June and July, which corresponds to the main fire season for this region of Siberia. Plots were burned under a wide range of fuel moisture and weather conditions to observe effects on fire behaviour, fire severity, emissions, and other ecological factors. All experimental plots were burned using line ignition along the windward side to quickly create equilibrium fire behaviour that mimics wildfires under similar burning conditions...

Key term(s)

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fires and Explosions
DEF

All the physical and/or chemical changes that take place when a material, product and/or structure burns or is exposed to fire.

OBS

burning behaviour : term and definition standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • burning behavior

French

Domaine(s)
  • Feux et explosions
DEF

Tous changements physiques et/ou chimiques qui interviennent lorsque des matériaux, des produits ou des structures brûlent ou sont exposés au feu.

OBS

comportement au feu : terme et définition normalisés par l'ISO.

Record 3 2008-03-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Brush, Prairie and Forest Fires
DEF

A number in an arithmetical scale, determined from fuel moisture content, wind speed, and other selected factors that affect burning conditions, and from which ease of ignition of fires and their probable behaviour may be estimated.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Incendies de végétation
DEF

Estimation numérique, généralement sur une échelle de 1 à 10, de la combustibilité des produits forestiers dans un contexte de risque d'incendie. Pour établir ce calcul, certains paramètres, tels que le vent, la température, l'humidité relative sont pris en compte.

Record 4 2001-02-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fires and Explosions
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
DEF

Any characteristic behaviour that might increase significantly the hazard presented by the burning material(e. g. dense smoke, flammable vapours, toxic smoke, possibility of polymerization or explosion).

OBS

a long history of over 150 years of excellent performance in numerous severe fires has established the superior fire endurance of heavy timber framing.

OBS

Compare "fire property", "fire hazard properties" and "burning characteristics.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Feux et explosions
  • Mesures et analyse (Sciences)
DEF

OBS

[Il y a six] classements de réaction. [...]. M0 : incombustible; M1 : Non inflammable; M2 : Difficilement inflammable; M3 : Moyennement inflammable; M4 : Facilement inflammable; M5 : Très facilement inflammable.
