The virtual reality system may make use of outside-in tracking, in which a tracking camera is placed external to the headset device and within the line of sight of the headset device. In outside-in tracking, the tracking camera may track the location of the headset(e. g., by tracking one or more infrared LED [light-emitting diode] markers on the headset device). Alternatively or additionally, the virtual reality system may make use of inside-out tracking, in which a tracking camera may be placed on or within the headset device itself. In inside-out tracking, the tracking camera may capture images around it in the real world and may use the changing perspectives of the real world to determine its own position in space. 1, record 1, English, - outside%2Din%20tracking

Suivi outside-in. […]

The resolution of an optical imaging system – a microscope, telescope, or camera – can be limited by factors such as imperfections in the lenses or misalignment. However, there is a fundamental maximum to the resolution of any optical system which is due to diffraction. An optical system with the ability to produce images with angular resolution as good as the instrument's theoretical limit is said to be diffraction limited. 2, record 15, English, - diffraction%20limited

3, record 15, French, - limit%C3%A9%20par%20la%20diffraction

The Binary Colloidal Alloy Test-3 is an Exploration Systems’ transition flight experiment in the Human System Research and Technology area. BCAT-3 provides a unique opportunity to explore fundamental physics and simultaneously develop important future technology, including computers operating on light, complex biomolecular pharmaceuticals, clean sources of geothermal power, and novel rocket engines for interplanetary travel. These studies depend entirely on the microgravity environment provided by the International Space Station(ISS) ;in all other locations accessible to science, gravity dominates and precludes investigation of any other effects of interest. The experiment itself [consists of] photographing samples of colloidal particles with a digital camera onboard the ISS. Colloids are tiny nanoscale spheres of plexiglass a thousand times smaller than the width of a human hair(submicron radius) that are suspended in a fluid. They are ubiquitous(e. g., milk, smoke, and paint) and therefore interesting to study directly. Colloids are also small enough that they behave much like atoms and so can be used to model all sorts of phenomena because their size, shape, and interactions can be controlled. The 10 samples in BCAT-3 are made from the same ingredients, each a recipe with different proportions, and are grouped into three experiments : critical point, binary alloy, and surface crystallization. [Text followed by an illustration of a BCAT-3 sample holder. ] 4, record 38, English, - binary%20alloy%20colloidal%20test

BCAT-3 is comprised of three separate experiments, which are individually referred to as a binary alloy (BCAT-3-BA), surface crystallization (BCAT-3-SC) and critical point (BCAT-3-CP). The critical point investigation is continuing with additional samples on future ISS [International Space Station] expeditions and will be referred to as Binary Colloidal Alloy Test - 4. BCAT-4 will consist of two sets of samples referred to as BCAT - 3 and 4: Critical Point (BCAT-3-4-CP) and BCAT-4:Polydisperse (BCAT-4-Poly). ... The Binary Colloidal Alloy Test-3 (BCAT-3) hardware supported three investigations in which ISS crews photographed samples of colloidal particles (tiny nanoscale spheres suspended in liquid) to document liquid/gas phase changes, growth of binary crystals, and the formation of colloidal crystals confined to a surface. Colloids are small enough that in a microgravity environment without sedimentation and convection, they behave much as atoms and so can be used to model all sorts of phenomena because their size, shape, and interactions can be controlled. The BCAT-3 payload consists of ten small samples of colloid alloys in which the microscopic colloid particles are mixed together into a liquid. These ten samples are contained within a small case that is the size of a school textbook. At the start of an experiment run, all ten samples are shaken to completely remix the colloid samples, much in the same way that salad dressing must be shaken to remix oil and vinegar. After the samples are mixed, what remains is periodically photographed using a digital camera until the colloid and liquid components of those samples have separated or the polymers have formed crystals. The samples can be remixed to repeat the experiment. The ten samples in BCAT-3 were selected as part of three separate experiments examining different physical processes: critical point, binary alloys, and surface crystallization. 5, record 38, English, - binary%20alloy%20colloidal%20test

Westinghouse Lunar Color Camera. Used on Apollo's 12 & 14. The camera was mounted inside the Modularized Equipment Stowage Assembly(MESA) in Quad 4 of the Lunar Module(LM) Descent Stage. This gave the capability of broadcasting the first steps of the astronauts as they climbed down the ladder of the LM at the start of the first EVA [extra vehicular activity]. The astronauts would then detach the camera from it's mount in the MESA, mount the camera on a tripod, and carry it away from the LM to show the progress of the EVA. This system was the same TV camera used on previous missions inside the CSM, with a few minor modifications to adapt it to the lunar environment. Inertial Stellar Compass Concept. ISC technology has artificial intelligence capabilities which will keep a spacecraft on course by providing attitude information to keep it stable and pointing accurately. It will also help the spacecraft recover from unexpected events, a temporary malfunction or power loss. To do that, the compass uses information from the camera-gyro assembly(CGA), which consists of two miniaturized devices : a star camera(or star tracker) to tell the spacecraft where it is pointing; gyroscopes to continuously monitor the spacecraft's motion. The gyroscopes also inform the control system how to keep the spacecraft stable and pointed in the right direction in case the camera is "blinded" by the Sun. The information gathered is compared with a large stellar catalog stored in the data processor assembly(DPA). Using a special algorithm the DPA determines the attitude accurately. This way the spacecraft's attitude is maintained correctly. 2, record 66, English, - inertial%20stellar%20compass

ESA has presently only developed a basic end effector (BEE) for the European robotic arm. Although the BEE can support EVA and has a good overall performance, its size and mass make its use impractical for most of the operations involved in servicing payloads external to the spacecraft. The dexterity needed for these operations requires a much smaller, compact gripper, equipped with an array of sensors which fully monitor both its status and operations. Furthermore, it is desirable to keep to a minimum the limitations and constraints imposed on the payload by the interface requirements. Functions performed by the gripper are: recovery of insertion misalignments; positioning of an object at a target location; securing an object firmly and releasably; provision of mechanical power; monitoring gripper status and operation. 2, record 69, English, - basic%20end%20effector

3, record 71, French, - enceinte%20perfectionn%C3%A9e%20de%20cristallisation%20des%20prot%C3%A9ines

DIDO Experiment Container is essentially a box with a side length of 150 mm. Design philosophy of DIDO experiment foreseen an "all inside" approach, so(at this moment) the experiment container is a mere box with no windows or openings, or relevant external features. DIDO EC is intended as a structural part for the inside experiment; only mechanical, electrical and data interfaces are required to connect DIDO EC with GLAD facility. The box is assembled as one piece but the topside is removable to have access to DIDO experiment. In this way the topside component works as a cover plate. The EC is made by(TBD) material and to meet safety requirements EC' s corners are slightly rounded, materials must not be flammable and machined with non-toxic surface treatment. Cover plate is connected with the box through screws. The bottom side, instead, compose the "first plate" of DIDO experiment, housing tanks and pumping system. Another plate placed about half height provides a "second plate" for DIDO cell and relative optics, laser unit and CCD camera. 1, record 72, English, - DIDO%20experiment%20container

A real-time digital video-image-processing system contributes to the automation of weld-seam tracking. The tracking system makes no contact with the seam. A small television camera views the seam just ahead of the point currently being welded. The welding arc provides the illumination. Periodically, a frame grabber digitizes the video image and stores it in a computer memory as gray-scale values. The seam is located by analyzing Hough-transform arrays of derivatives of digitally-filtered image data. The information on the location and orientation of the seam is used as feedback by a welding robot to correct deviations of the electrode from the seam as welding continues. 1, record 82, English, - real%2Dtime%20digital%20video%2Dimage%2Dprocessing%20system

1, record 88, French, - gyroscope%20%C3%A0%20faible%20d%C3%A9rive
