CONT

The drawing apparatus does not project an image originating from the microscope, it rather adds an external image, that of the drawing, to the one normally observed in the microscope eyepiece.... The drawing attachment described here fits easily between the binocular tube and the tube support of a Wild compound microscope. It is a tubular piece, protruding horizontally to the left or the right hand of the observer.... Similar "drawing tubes" for camera lucida viewing with stereomicroscopes are also available. Because each ocular in the stereomicroscope produces an image of the specimen from a different angle, both images together give the impression of 3D-vision, but obviously, the drawing picked up from the drawing tube can be superimposed with only one of the two members of the stereopair.

Subject field(s)

DEF

A camera tube in which a charge image corresponding to the optical image input grows in magnitude on the target until neutralised by the scanning beam.

OBS

This occurs in all the camera tubes such as the iconoscope, image iconoscope, orthicon, image orthicon and vidicon which have been successfully used in television services. Storage occurs by virtue of the capacitance of the target and it brings about a considerable increase in the sensitivity of the tube. In fact it was not until the advantage of the storage principle was appreciated that tubes sensitive enough for use in television services became possible.

OBS

storage camera tube: term officially approved by the Electronics and Telecommunications Terminology Committee.

DEF

CONT

[A] scanning radiometer ... uses a rotating or oscillating mirror to scan the field to be sensed remotely.

OBS

Scanning radiometers which are the sole imaging systems on all current operational weather satellites, have far better long-term performance than the vidicon TV camera tubes used with earlier spacecraft.

SPI, or Sediment Profile Imagery, is an innovative and cost efficient method of surveying and/or monitoring lake or marine aquatic environments with a view to establishing the environmental status of these habitats or as part of a site suitability study.... SPI is based on single lens reflex(SLR) camera photography and computer-based image analysis which greatly accelerates the time required to write reports and provide relevant data to the client/legislator in a matter of weeks. SPI technology can readily quantify over 20 physical, chemical and biological parameters including : sediment grain size; prism penetration; surface pelletal layer; sediment surface relief; mud clasts; redox area; redox contrast; current apparent redox boundary; relict redox boundaries; methane gas vesicles; apparent faunal dominants; voids; burrows; surface features(e. g. worm tubes, epifauna, shell) ;dredged material; microbial aggregations; and successional stage.

CONT

[Taking Close-ups. ] To extend the lens enough to focus on objects at very close distances, you must insert an extension ring, a tube, or a bellows between the lens and the camera body. Extension rings and tubes are often available in sets of various lengths, so they may be used singly or in combination for a number of different extensions. There are also telescoping or so-called "zoom" extension tubes.

Video cameras. Video cameras can contain many different sensing elements and signal output formats. The majority of camera systems use vidicon tubes as the image-sensing element. A vidicon tube, like the cathode ray tube, contains an electron gun and a screen. In the vidicon tube, however, the screen is a thin photoconductive film rather than a glass plate coated with phosphor.
