Minéral du système rhomboédrique, à éclat vitreux, transparent à translucide, constitué de carbonate double de calcium et de magnésium.

La dolomite, rhomboédrique, a souvent une partie de son Mg substitué par du Fe [...], ce qui lui confère une coloration blanc jaunâtre, qui devient brunâtre lorsque le fer s'oxyde.
