Base and superstructure are two linked theoretical concepts developed by Karl Marx, one of sociology's founders. Base refers to the production forces, or the materials and resources, that generate the goods society needs.... Marxian theory of history largely speaks about how the economy offers a foundation to social life. He considers that economy is defined by modes of productions [that] are characterized by factors of production that include land, industry, technology, labour, and capital. The factors of production necessarily define production relations. Therefore, Marx considers that production relation is an economic relation that offers a foundation to human society. 3, record 3, English, - substructure

As any savvy business professional will tell you, corporations large and small now find themselves having to disclose information that goes far beyond traditional financial reporting. And we’re not just talking about reporting on environmental, health and safety issues; nowadays corporate reporting has to addresses such concerns as human resources, intellectual capital, brand valuation and management, and other intangibles. In fact, many shareholders regard such non-financial reporting as must-have information, and investors often consider transparency a deal-breaker when building their portfolios. 2, record 30, English, - non%2Dfinancial%20reporting

The major cities of the economically powerful Western nations constitute the nodes of these networks, enabling these nations to draw upon the ecological capital of all other nations to provide food for their populations, energy and materials for their economies, and even land, air and water to absorb their waste by-products. This ecological capital, which may be found thousands of miles from the regions in which it is used, forms the shadow ecology of an economy. The oceans, the atmosphere(climate), and other common assets also form part of this shadow ecology, which includes the environmental resources a country draws from other countries and the global common assets. 3, record 31, English, - shadow%20ecology

The concept of productivity recognizes the interplay between various factors in the workplace. The output or results achieved may be related to different inputs or resources in the form of various productivity ratios, for example, output per labour hour, output per unit of material(as in kilometres driven per litre of gas) or output per unit of capital. Each of these productivity ratios may be influenced by a combination of factors, such as quality and availability of materials, scale of operations, rate of capacity utilization, availability and throughput capacity of capital equipment, attitude and skill level of the work force, motivation and effectiveness of the management. The manner in which these factors interrelate will have a bearing on the resulting productivity ratio. 1, record 49, English, - productivity%20ratio

PWGSC [Public Works and Government Services Canada] Real Property Services Branch Document. PWGSC offered significant savings in office accommodation as part of the department's Program Review targets, in response to the anticipated downsizing of the federal public service. In addition, the targets include the Treasury Board directed 10% efficiency gains stemming from the Shared Accommodation Leadership(SAL) initiative. These two government wide initiatives necessitated the creation of a space recapture framework. The Client Space Envelope/Notional Budget Allocation is a concept which has been developed to allow clients to be more keenly aware of their space utilization so that they can take an active part in the space recapture framework.... The Budget Allocations are considered "notional" because no resources are actually transferred, and because budgets are based on 1994/95 average costs(excluding capital, lease acquisition fees, etc.). The process will involve PWGSC and clients agreeing on the base occupancy data and multi-year space reduction targets. 1, record 53, English, - Client%20Space%20Envelopes%2FNotional%20Budget%20Allocations%20Guiding%20and%20Operating%20Principles

2, record 53, French, - Enveloppes%20de%20locaux%20des%20clients%20%2D%20Affectations%20budg%C3%A9taires%20fictives%20Principes%20directeurs%20et%20principes%20de%20fonctionnement

The opportunity cost of using investment resources in a project rather than in their next best alternative use; usually expressed in the form of an interest rate. The reduction in non-project benefits in relation to project objectives that is a result of using capital in the project. In practice, usually a weighted average calculation of the cost of securing project capital from various sources. In financial analysis, the weighted average cost to the firm or farm of equity capital and of borrowed capital from likely sources. In economic analysis, usually the weighted average cost of capital to the economy as a whole, but sometimes the weighted average cost of capital to the public sector. The rate at which benefits and costs are discounted in calculating the net present worth, the net benefit-investment ratio, or the benefit-cost ratio. The cut-off rate for project analysis, and hence the minimum acceptable internal rate of return. 3, record 59, English, - opportunity%20cost%20of%20capital

1, record 59, Spanish, - costo%20de%20oportunidad%20del%20capital
