A procedure to release the scar tissue surrounding a breast implant.

OBS

There are three basic treatments for capsular contracture once it occurs. They are : 1) Closed capsulotomy : the doctor squeezes the hardened tissue to break it. 2) Open capsulotomy : the doctor surgically breaks up the breast scar tissue. 3) Capsulectomy : the scar tissue is surgically removed.

Subpectoral placement involves lodging the implant under the pectoralis major muscle.

OBS

Because of the structure of this muscle, the implant is only partially covered. This alternative reduces the risk of capsular contracture and visible implant rippling, but recovery time from this positioning is typically longer and more painful because the doctor has to manipulate the muscle during surgery.
