The College strives to improve the health of Canadians by promoting high standards of medical education and care in family practice, by contributing to public understanding of healthful living, by supporting ready access to family physician services, and by encouraging research and disseminating knowledge about family medicine.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada. The National Research System(NaReS) was established in 1976 with a multi-province influenza surveillance project that included family physician workgroup members from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. Today it consists of a network of primary care practitioners called "sentinels" who are members of the College of Family Physicians of Canada(CFPC). NaReS sentinels are family physicians with an interest in answering research questions which arise out of their day-to-day practice.

Family Medicine Forum 2000... A Celebration of Caring, which runs October 18-21st, 2000 in Ottawa, will draw the largest gathering ever of Canadian family doctors for the annual meeting of the CFPC. Federal Health Minister Allan Rock will address the delegates on Thursday.
