In ruminants, methane is produced mostly by enteric fermentation where microbes decompose and ferment plant materials, such as celluloses, fiber, starches, and sugars, in their digestive tract or rumen. In gas correlation spectroscopy, a cell containing the target gas is placed in front of the sensor. The scene is viewed twice, through the target gas cell and through an empty cell. The gas in the cell serves as a "matched filter" to the target gas in the plume. The "modulated" transmission of the system is very high at the spectral bands of the target gas while it practically blocks transmission at all other wavelengths. The system has a very high Etendue (throughput) and is simultaneously responsive to several spectral lines or bands -- increasing the overall sensitivity. 2, record 13, English, - gas%20correlation%20spectroscopy

A chlorine atom or a chlorine monoxide radical combines with another molecule to form a stable product that temporarily acts as a chlorine "reservoir" ;when chlorine is thus engaged(as it is most of the time in the normal atmosphere), it is unavailable to attack ozone. Two important reservoirs are chlorine nitrate(C1ONO2), formed by the combination of chlorine monoxide and nitrogen dioxide(NO2) and hydrochloric acid(HC1), formed from a chlorine atome and methane(CH4). 5, record 15, English, - chlorine%20reservoir

[One of] the main ways of monitoring a digestion unit [is] as follows : analysis of the gas. Continuous measurement of CO2 and CH4 content is the quickest method of revealing any anomaly in the process of digestion. In particular, it reveals the presence of toxic or inhibiting substances in the reactor. This type of check can be used with advantage at very large plants, because the operating staff are warned immediately. 1, record 17, English, - inhibiting%20substance
