English

Subject field(s)
  • Banking
  • Forms Design
CONT

After the image has been captured at the processing centre and sent to the drawee institution, the original paper cheque will no longer serve much purpose. Shortly after the usability of the image has been confirmed, the financial institution in possession of the paper cheque will see to its destruction.

CONT

Previous stimulus programs entailed the government mailing a physical check to its citizens. However, paper checks are costly to execute, take a lot of time to print and distribute, and necessitate millions of person-to-person transactions at a time when we are striving to reduce such contacts.

L'Association canadienne des paiements (ACP) gère des systèmes de compensation et de règlement au Canada. Whenever a restoration is completed, it is necessary to check the articulation to be certain that the teeth are in proper occlusion. Carbon paper is used for this purpose. It has carbon on both sides, and when the patient taps his teeth together or bites on this paper,... marks are left which enable the dentist to see whether the restoration needs further carving for correct function.

DEF

a system of identification (based on digitized light patterns) designed to make a product difficult to fake or at least easily distinguishable from knockoffs.

CONT

Light patterns : A Los Angeles-based company, Light Signatures, Inc., creates its fingerprints by extracting random patterns inherent within the product itself. A computerized processor passes a high-intensity light beam through a paper label to be affixed to merchandise. The processor captures a picture of the tangled web of fibers in the paper, digitizes it and converts it into a number, which is printed on the label. Forgers can copy the numbers on the labels, but they can’t match the code to the fiber pattern. To check suspect goods, a manufacturer sends the labels back to Light Signatures, which compares their optical fingerprints to the numbered images. If the two don’t match, the labels-and probably the goods-are fake.

A few parts of the house deserve particular attention... around doors and windows... where the wood-frame wall meets the masonry... around doors into unheated attic... There is an easy way to tell whether or not any of the above areas need work.... make yourself a draft gauge. All you need is a metal clothes hanger, a plastic sandwich bag(or a piece of light tissue paper), a pair of scissors and two clothes pins. Cut the sandwich bag down each side and wrap one end over the cross-bar of the clothes hanger. Use the clothes pins to fasten the bag to the bar. Check for drafts, on a cold day, in all suspected areas. Hold the gauge steady by the handle of the hanger with the plastic bag close to the suspected areas. If any breeze is coming in, the movement of the plastic will show you where.
