In 1992, Environment Canada established the Office of Federal Environmental Stewardship to promote and facilitate the implementation of the Code. It also signed an Environmetal Accountability Parnership(EAP) agreement with the Treasury Board Secretariat to improve co-ordination between them and, primarily, those departments with responsibilities for the management of lands and buildings. This agreement provides a means to build consensus on environmental accountability in government operations, through the EAP Steering Committee and the various technical working groups reporting to it.
